Position Summary
The Youth Specialist is primarily responsible for providing direct services to children. The Youth Specialist provides support and guidance to foster parents in order to enhance the success of the placement.
The Youth Specialist participates in the development of treatment plans for youth, working to develop and implement methods intended to achieve the identified goals and objectives outlined in the youth’s treatment plan via individual and/or group activities. The Youth Specialist also maintains and updates individual case records, accurately documenting their services, and assists with transporting youth as needed in times of crisis and to appointments, activities, and visitation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Utilizes interventions guided and supported by the clinical expertise of the therapist to assist program participants in meeting identified goals and achieving the maximum level of permanency.
2. Supervises children and adolescents in a foster home on a predictable and regular schedule, via the provision of respite.
3. Provides a positive role model for clients and works to expand and integrate clients into the community setting.
4. Will coordinate with other program staff for foster care group activities and trainings.
5. Will assist with acquiring required documentation and filing in client records.
6. Will assist with the promotion of foster care initiatives and community awareness of the program.
7. Provides services in a manner that is culturally competent. Empowers clients by using clients’ cultural strengths and informal support networks in service delivery.
8. Maintains effective professional relationships with other service providers and community organizations in the interest of clients’ and program goals.
9. Identifies and reports on Untoward Incidents as required.
10. Carries out Agency policies and procedures.
11. Completes all necessary written reports, statistics, case files and summaries in a timely manner and in accordance with program and agency standards.
12. Attends and participates in individual supervisory conferences, staff meetings, training sessions and professional development opportunities as required. Maintains required program certifications.
13. Provides door-to-door transportation as required. Ensures safety and welfare of passengers during loading, unloading and transit. Makes use of personal vehicle for program transportation as required.
14. Handles emergencies that may require flexibility of time and area of assignment.
15. Performs other duties, responsibilities and related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelors/Associates or HS diploma with one (1) year related experience in child welfare or related setting, and demonstrated competency in behavior management techniques for foster children is preferred. Must have a valid New York State driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
Pay Rate: $18.30 per hour
