Responsibilities
Level 1:
- Develops mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electro-mechanical systems for use on large mining haul trucks and/or large autonomous mining haul trucks
- Performs system calculations and/or simulations
- Creates schematic representations of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electro mechanical systems
- Interfaces with other disciplines (Mechanical, Hydraulic, Electrical, etc.) to create specifications/requirements that outline control system logic necessary for haul truck functions
- Writes software and/or uses model based design techniques to develop software modules
- Develops detailed test requests to initiate both component and system level testing and validation
- Works independently and as a team member with other engineers, designers, and production personnel or on ad hoc projects
- Participates in the Engineering Development Program
- Demonstrated proficiency of Systems Engineer Level 1, plus:
- Research electric and hydraulic components for use in control systems
- Demonstrated proficiency of Systems Engineer Level 2, plus:
- Researches solutions to optimize system designs and parameters with analytical methods
- Interfaces with other disciplines (Mechanical, Hydraulic, Electrical, etc.) to specify proper control components (PLC’s, computing platforms, HMI, and other associated hardware)
- Estimates time and cost requirements for the development and serial production of haul truck systems
- Researches and analyzes customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data
- Confers with Engineers and other personnel to develop operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information
- Demonstrated proficiency of Systems Engineer Level 3, plus:
- Trains, mentors, and develops Engineers and other personnel on operating procedures, resolving system malfunctions, and providing technical information. (Autonomy)
- Reviews and approves designs of mechanical and/or electrical systems to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications. (Autonomy)
Education And Experience:
- Systems Engineer 1: A Master of Science Degree (MS) or, a Bachelor of Science Degree (BSME, BSEE, BS Mechatronics Engineer or BSCompE) or, Associate of Science Degree (ASEE) with 10 years of relevant electrical
- experience in an engineering environment.
- Systems Engineer 2: A Master of Science Degree (MS) with 1 year of relevant electrical experience in an engineering environment or, a Bachelor of Science Degree (BSME, BSEE, BS Mechatronics Engineer or BSCompE)
- with 2 years of relevant electrical experience in an engineering environment.
- Systems Engineer 3: A Master of Science Degree (MS) with 4 to 6 years of relevant electrical experience in an engineering environment or, a Bachelor of Science Degree (BSME, BSEE, BS Mechatronics Engineer or BSCompE)
- with 6 to 8 years of relevant electrical experience in an engineering environment.
- Systems Engineer 4 (Senior): A Master of Science Degree (MS) with 6 to 8 years of relevant electrical experience in an engineering environment or, a Bachelor of Science Degree (BSME, BSEE, BS Mechatronics Engineer or BSCompE)
- with 8 to 10 years of relevant electrical experience in an engineering environment.
- Ability to mathematically model mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical systems
- Ability to create schematics depicting system operation and design
- Ability to learn and apply system modeling techniques using Matlab/Simulink
- Ability to review and post process machine data logs to develop future system operational parameters using Matlab or similar high performance language for technical computing
- Ability to learn programming languages and/or model based code development
- Ability to write specifications and requirements that describe system function and logic
- Ability to apply basic electrical equations to circuit analysis
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as algebra, probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
- Ability to install and modify basic control system wiring (Autonomy)
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
- Demonstrated proficiency of Systems Engineer Level 1, plus:
- Ability to review schematics depicting system operation and design
- Proficiency in system modeling techniques using Matlab/Simulink
- Understanding of the model based code development processes and tools
- Ability to review CAD layouts in 3D Modeling Software
- Demonstrated proficiency of Systems Engineer Level 2, plus:
- Knowledge of technical fundamentals of robotics and/or autonomous systems (Autonomy)
- Knowledge of industrial hydraulics
- Knowledge of mechanical and electro-mechanical systems
- Knowledge of automated control (Product Engineering)
- Ability to perform CAD layouts in a 3D modeling software
- Ability to review and post process machine data logs to develop future system operational parameters using nCode Glyphworks or similar
- Knowledge of Project Management tools (ex. Microsoft Project) (Product Engineering)
- Ability to accurately scope technical projects and develop supporting documentation (Product Engineering)
- Ability to write specifications that describe system function and logic
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance manuals, and procedure manuals, software specifications
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form (Product Engineering)
- Demonstrated proficiency of Systems Engineer Level 3, plus:
- Knowledge of robotic and/or autonomous systems (Autonomy)
- Knowledge of automated control (Autonomy)
- Ability to create schematics depicting system operation and design
- Knowledge of Project Management tools (ex. Microsoft Project) (Autonomy)
- Ability to accurately scope technical projects and develop supporting documentation (Autonomy)
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form (Autonomy)
- Travel domestically and internationally up to 15% of the time.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and passport.
- Ability to maintain Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) certification.
