Information System Security Engineer (ISSE)
Position Summary :
As Information System Security Engineer (ISSE) , you will support the NAVFAC EXWC Control System Cyber Engineering (CSCE) division located in Port Hueneme, CA. This position is contingent on contract award and funding (anticipated Q1 of 2025).
Clearance Required :
- Must be a US citizen with a DoD Secret security clearance
Essential Functions and Responsibilities :
Engineer, implement and monitor security measures for the protection of computer systems, networks and informationIdentify and define system security requirementsDesign computer security architecture and develop detailed cyber security designsPrepare and document standard operating procedures and protocolsConfigure and troubleshoot security infrastructure devicesDevelop technical solutions and new security tools to help mitigate security vulnerabilities and automate repeatable tasksWrite comprehensive reports including assessment-based findings, outcomes and propositions for further system security enhancementResearch, design, and implement cybersecurity solutions for organization systems and products that comply with all applicable security policies and standards.Work with IT / OT and internal and external business partners to ensure that security is factored in the evaluation, selection, installation and configuration process of hardware and software.Analyze and make recommendations to improve network, system and application architectures.Examine and monitor network, server, and application logs to determine trends and identify security incidents.Assists in the review and update of cyber security policies, architectures and standards.Assists in responding to audits, penetration tests and vulnerability assessments.Research the latest trends in IT and security.Provide strategic risk guidance for IT projects, including the evaluation and recommendation of technical controls.Develop, maintain and publish up-to-date information security policies, standards and guidelines.Oversee the approval, training, and dissemination of security policies and practices.Monitor the external threat environment for emerging threats and advise relevant stakeholders on the appropriate courses of action.Required Education, Skills, and Experience :
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity or related fieldMust have at a minimum IAM lvl 2 (CISM, CISSP, etc.) compliant certificationProven work experience as a System Security Engineer or Information Security EngineerExperience with Cybersecurity tools such as ACAS / Nessus, Snort, Splunk, SCAP Compliance checker, etc.Experience with Linux, Windows, and NetworkingWorking knowledge of STIGsExperience with NIST SP 800 seriesExperience in building and maintaining security systemsDetailed technical knowledge of database and operating system securityHands on experience in security systems, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, anti-virus software, authentication systems, log management, content filtering, etcExperience with network security and networking technologies and with system, security, and network monitoring toolsThorough understanding of the latest security principles, techniques, and protocolsFamiliarity with web related technologies (Web applications, Web Services, Service Oriented Architectures) and of network / web related protocolsProblem solving skills and ability to work under pressureAbility to interpret complex data and generate meaningful insightsStrong communication skills to effectively convey technical concepts to stakeholdersPhysical Demands and Expectations :
