Position Description:
The Organ Administrator on Call (OAOC) Manager will support the mission, vision, and values of Lifebanc. This position will manage OAOC employees while taking some OAOC shifts. The OAOC will be responsible for directing the staff and assisting in the clinical decision making.
The OAOC Manager will be responsible for the direct oversight of the daily clinical operations related to organ donation within Lifebanc’s donor service area. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to staff deployment, resource utilization, communication with onsite clinical staff, collaboration with other members of the Lifebanc team and external partners, ensuring that Lifebanc is following regulatory policies and procedures throughout each step of the donation process and ensuring the successful outcome of every donor case on their assigned shift.
Essential Functions:
Provides supervisory oversight of Organ Administrator on Call to ensure efficiency and compliance with all Lifebanc, UNOS and AOPO policies and standards.
- Prepares the on-call schedule to ensure coverage at all times.
- Provides guidance to the AOC to accurately screen and evaluate cases to maximize donation.
- Planning and delivering department meetings
- Management of the selection, training, development and performance of the departmental staff.
- Evaluate qualified candidates for staffing vacancies.
- Performs all job responsibilities of an Organ Administrator on Call.
- Assumes designated OAOC call shifts.
- Provides availability beyond that of a typical work week to include nights, weekends and holidays and take call in 24-hour increments.
- Assist staff in critical decisions regarding staffing, utilization of resources, case management, allocation and providing real time constructive feedback as well as education to clinical staff.
- In conjunction with Lifebanc’s medical director’s the OAOC will screen potential donors for the suitability of donation after brain death and circulatory death based on the information provided by onsite clinical staff.
- Evaluates donor record, including authorization/disclosure, donor risk assessment interview (DRAI), hospital charting, plasma dilution, and other available documentation to determine suitability of organs for recovery, research, and transplantation.
- Assist in donor huddles to ensure all relevant recovery information is communicated and teams have resources available for active and pending cases.
- Effectively help guide clinical staff through the implementation of standard organ donor management goals as well as help direct donor management in conjunction with Lifebanc’s medical director.
- Oversees all logistical operations processes for organ donation cases.
Participates in quality improvement and research activities:
- Participates in ongoing case review to ensure processes are followed, determine areas or data trends that require process or performance improvement, and identify best practices to maximize of donor gifts.
- Monitor and review available reports to ensure metrics are being met or exceeded.
- Provide input for data development and reporting projects and participate in the collection of data when needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in nursing, respiratory therapy, or related biological science preferred and
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as the Organ Administer on Call required.
- Minimum of 5 years as Procurement Coordinator required.
- Active current license/certificate pursuant to required education and experience.
- BLS and ACLS required; certification must be approved by the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator (CPTC) preferred.
- Must be able to participate in a variable 24-hour call schedule including weekdays, nights, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to adjust schedule to accommodate organizational needs including times of high clinical volume.
