Position Description:
This position is responsible to provide leadership in the operational activities of the Organ Services Department as they relate to the evaluation, management, and recovery of potential donors to ensure that UNOS and AOPO standards are met, enabling the organization to fulfill donor and donor family wishes.
Essential Functions:
Provides supervisory oversight of Procurement Transplant Coordinators (PTC I and PTC II) to ensure efficiency and compliance with all Lifebanc, UNOS and AOPO policies and standards.
- Prepares the on-call schedule for the organ services department to ensure adequate coverage at all times, shifts, and manages overtime.
- May perform Administrative On-Call (AOC) duties.
- Provides guidance to Procurement Transplant Coordinators, Hospital Services Coordinators, and Surgical Organ Recovery Coordinators to accurately screen and evaluate cases to maximize donation.
- Assists in the planning and delivery of departmental staff meetings.
Assists in the management of the selection, training, development, and performance of the departmental staff to maintain a motivated professional workforce.
- Evaluates qualified applicants for staffing vacancies.
- Communicates job responsibilities and performance expectations to assure mutual understanding and desired results.
- Provides and/or oversees orientation and training that will assist the employee in achieving enhanced job performance, continuing education, and career objectives.
- Constructively coaches and counsels’ staff to seek optimal employee performance.
- Conducts performance reviews in alignment with job expectations.
Assures consistent compliance with local, state and federal regulations and professional standards related to organ recovery.
- Maintains compliance with UNOS and AOPO standards.
- Encourages and ensures maintenance of certifications for procurement and preservation staff.
- Assures internal clinical policies reflect changes to UNOS and AOPO standards and staff is updated on changes within an acceptable timeframe.
Attends the Medical Advisory Board and any other appropriate clinical meetings.
- Facilitates the presentation and the follow up of any action items in the Lifebanc Case Review.
- Attends any hospital Donor Council and/or After-Action Review at the request of the Hospital Services department.
Supervises all clinical activities within the Lifebanc Donor Care Facility (DCF).
- Assures adequate staffing coverage for all donors transferred and care for in the Lifebanc DCF.
- Oversees the arrangement of all training, including annual competencies, for the procurement and preservation staff.
Conducts quality reviews of departmental operations to ensure all quality guidelines are met.
- Participates in continuous quality improvement efforts that impact the organ donor process.
- Reviews and processes response and corrective action(s) to assigned occurrences from the Quality department.
- Assists in the review, creation, update and maintenance of Organ Services department policy and procedure manuals.
Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse or healthcare professional with a minimum of three years of critical care and/or a minimum of two years of experience as a Procurement Transplant Coordinator/equivalent.
- 1-3 years of management experience in a critical care setting is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field is preferred.
- Appropriate current license pursuant to required education and experience.
- ACLS and BLS required; certification must be approved by the American Heart Association (AHA).
- CPTC (Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator) or CCTC (Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator) preferred.
- Ability to organize and prioritize workflow. Ability to multi-task under extreme pressure with deadlines.
- Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently from home, the office or hospital settings.
- Ability to work for greater than 24 hours at a given time and have the ability to work nights and weekends as needed.
