Position Title: Patient Access Float
Reports To: Patient Access Manager
Classification: Hourly non exempt
Attendance at HIPAA and compliance educational programs is a requirement of employment.
SUMMARY:
The Patient Access Float is responsible for cross training in all positions of the front and exit roles in the office. Responsibilities include greeting and checking patients into the clinic, assuring that the proper intake forms are complete, collecting patient co-pays, scheduling and maintaining schedules for all medical, dental and behavioral health office visits, and assisting in maintaining medical records. Traveling to all Lifecare FHDC locations to fill in and cover team roles that are vacant. The Patient Access Float will also coordinate provider schedules with the Clinical Coordinator.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Greets anyone who presents at the front window, patients, visitors and employees. Notifies appropriate staff of any visitors’ arrival.
- Completes patient check-ins and collects co-pays and outstanding balances as needed.
- Verifies all patient information including personal and financial and assigns eligibility level. Registers new patients as needed.
- Assists patients with completing information forms, as needed.
- Schedules medical, dental and behavioral health patient appointments as assigned. Gives a clinical summary to all Medical and BH patients at exit scheduling.
- Coordinates daily provider schedules with Patient Access Manager and providers.
- Makes confirmation calls to patients for appointments. Reminds patient of any information that they need to bring with them to their appointment (Co-pay, current medications, etc.). Counsels with patients regarding outstanding balances and payments.
- Check bump list for any appointments that may need to be rescheduled.
- Evaluates record requests for HIPAA compliance and releases information in compliance with all applicable laws.
- Answers incoming telephone calls and relays calls or messages as needed.
- Recruits, educates, and enrolls patients to the online portal.
- Cross-trains in other areas of office procedures.
- Participates in and serves on committees as assigned.
- Travel between all three sites as necessary to meet operational needs.
- Attends mandatory staff meetings and agency meetings as assigned.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
PREFERRED JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or GED certificate, required.
- Valid Driver’s License, and reliable transportation.
- Two years of medical or dental front office experience.
- Associate degree, certification in Front Office/Medical Office, or Medical Assistance experience or credential can be substituted for 2 years of front office experience.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is highly preferred.
- BLS certified or achievement of certification within the first 90 days of employment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Ability to attend multiple tasks at the same time. Ability to prioritize assignments and responsibilities to ensure compliance with established deadlines and protocols.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- The ability to work with persons from a wide diversity of social, ethnic and economic backgrounds is necessary.
- Mid-level / advanced computer skills.
- The ability to distinguish letters and symbols as well as the ability to utilize telephones, computer terminals, fax machines, and copiers is required.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Must be willing to submit to post offer, pre-employment physical examination/medical history check if requested.
- May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening.
- Lifecare will provide Hepatitis A/B vaccinations; candidate may decline vaccinations in writing or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer.
- A pre-employment background investigation may be required.
- Pre-employment and random drug testing may be required.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Prolonged sitting or standing may be required. Those physical movements and the degree of mobility, manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination normally associated with receptionist duties in a clinic office setting will be performed on a repetitive basis. This also includes bending, twisting, reaching, lifting, pulling, pushing, and walking. Moderate physical activity which requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day. Working under stressful conditions as well as irregular hours may be required.

Pay: $15.50 - $17.00 per hour
