This position assists the Foster and Rescue Manager with managing and coordinating the veterinary
care for all medical foster animals. Collaborates with all relevant parties, both internal and
external to LifeLine, to ensure foster animals are given efficient, quality care on time and on budget.
Manages administrative documentation related to medical foster animal cases.

- Oversee and coordinate all aspects of VCA medical cases, including the administrative details, outside veterinary clinic communications, and follow up veterinary care of foster medical cases.
- Manage and ensure the effective completion of the following routine tasks for foster animals:
o Bloodwork review and data entry.
o X-ray requests and completion, review and diagnosis, and data entry.
o Medication refills for ongoing foster animal medical cases.
o Requests for foster animal medical treatment.
o Communications regarding foster animal medical updates to fosters.
- Manage and monitor the communication systems related to medical foster animals, such as email, phone systems, and occasional after-hours emergency cell phone assignments, ensuring a response in a timely manner.
- Participate in ensuring that routine foster animal medical care done in-house is completed in a timely manner, such as regular monthly preventatives and vaccinations, and subsequent data entry is done. Assist in vaccination and medication administration as needed.
- Act as primary point of contact for chronic and/or prolonged foster animal medical cases, managing related foster communications and coordinating veterinary visits as needed.
- Communicate effectively and coordinate often with the Shelter Medicine department’s Assistant Clinic Manager to maximize resources and ensure quality medical care for foster animals.
- Support the advocacy of medical foster animal placement and communicate appropriately and positively with the public about various foster animal medical conditions.
- Assist the Foster and Rescue Manager and Assistant Clinic Manager with tracking invoices and ordering for foster animal prescription diets.
- Utilize a judgement-free mindset when fielding questions from fosters and have a focus on clear communication and teamwork.
- Address foster medical concerns with efficiency and empathy while prioritizing shelter animal wellbeing and adhering to LifeLine policies.
- Other tasks as assigned.

- Must pass background check and drug screening.
- Must have reliable transportation.
Education and/or Experience:
Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent. One or more years’ veterinary assistant, tech or equivalent experience. Experience working in a fast-paced, high volume animal shelter or veterinary clinic environment preferred. Experience working with neonatal animals a plus.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, employee may be exposed to unpleasant kennel smells. May have to handle dogs and cats that are stray, injured, diseased or vicious.
