The Facilities Assistant is responsible for all areas related to the oversight and maintenance of Lifelong’s facilities, grounds, and equipment. This position requires discretion and independent judgment. The Facilities Assistant reports to the Facilities Manager. This is a regular full-time, non-exempt, union position.
Qualifications
Essential Duties:
- Takes responsibility for responding to maintenance requests as directed. This includes but is not limited to painting, plumbing, HVAC maintenance, minor electrical repair, drywall repair, lightbulb replacement, cleaning carpet/flooring, pressure washing, and light vehicle maintenance.
- Maintains high level of accuracy, efficiency, and follow-through when answering maintenance requests.
- Ensures accurate and updated Facilities tickets.
- Routinely inspect facilities, grounds, and equipment to ensure they are in proper working order and ready for use. When found not to be working properly, coordinate required repairs.
- Supports the Facilities Manager in ensuring the security, integrity, and maintenance of all agency sites and physical infrastructure.
- Performs general grounds clean up and litter removal as needed, as well as leaf-blowing and snow removal seasonally as required.
- Maintains and organizes tools, equipment, and workspaces to ensure they are in proper working order and ready for use.
- Perform office, cubicle, and furniture moving; kitchen equipment setup and removal, as needed.
- Serves as a back-up contact for calls regarding alarm systems or after-hours emergencies; may participate in an on-call schedule for urgent or emergency requests.
- Performs on-call rotation and after-hours maintenance emergencies.
- Provides excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
- Other duties as assigned.
Core Competencies:
- Demonstrated working knowledge of building systems including electrical, plumbing, lighting, and painting.
- Proven knowledge and experience using a variety of power/hand tools and their safe use.
- Demonstrated basic understanding of carpentry, painting, and drywall principles.
- Mechanically inclined with the ability to troubleshoot and solve problems.
- Proven ability to organize, prioritize multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a time-sensitive environment.
- Possess an understanding of professional boundaries.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
- Flexibility and willingness to perform other tasks as assigned and ability to respond to changing priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to be patient and effective while working with diverse groups of people at all levels of the organization.
- Proven strong work ethic that includes neatness, punctuality, persistence, and a positive attitude.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person and in writing, and to project a professional image.
- Ability to develop good working relationships with internal and external customers.
- Ability to respond quickly to change.
- Basic understanding and knowledge of MS Office Suite.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 2 years in facility maintenance, building trades, or equivalent.
- Available for on-call rotation and after-hours maintenance.
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License.
Work Environment:
- The position is primarily located in an office setting in Seattle, with the work occurring via a hybrid model of time in the office and time out in the field at Lifelong’s facilities.
- All staff are currently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to COVID-19, and proof of full COVID-19 vaccination is required upon hiring.
