Job Summary:

The Grant Specialist advances Lifelong’s mission by securing and stewarding funding from institutional donors. This role manages the grants calendar, oversees the preparation of proposals and reports, and identifies new funding opportunities aligned with Lifelong’s programs and strategic priorities. The position works closely with Lifelong leadership, program staff, and the Philanthropy Team to ensure accurate, compelling applications and reporting that maximizes revenue and deepens relationships with funders. The Grant Specialist reports to the Director of Philanthropy.

Essential Duties:

  • Manages a portfolio of approximately 30 institutional funders, including completing grant proposals, preparing required reports, and stewarding funder relationships.
  • Develops and maintains a funding application and proposal calendar, including submission dates, report schedules, and reapplication requirements.
  • Oversees the completion of routine funding proposals and renewals and reports, including narratives and supporting documentation.
  • Develops a thorough understanding of Lifelong’s mission, programs, and financial priorities to ensure alignment of funding requests with organizational goals.
  • Researches and identifies new funding sources aligned with Lifelong’s mission, programs, and goals.
  • Tracks funding trends through ongoing education and engagement with professional organizations.
  • Collaborates with Lifelong leadership and program staff on application narratives and reporting requirements.
  • Supports the Philanthropy Team to maximize fundraising revenue and advance Lifelong’s mission.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Core Competencies:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of institutional giving including research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.
  • Strong computer skills, with Salesforce (or similar CRM), and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Proven ability to communicate and work effectively with funders, donors, community partners, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage priorities to meet deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum two years of experience in non-profit fund development, with experience with grants or corporate engagement
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field preferred.

Work Environment:

  • This position is a hybrid with a requirement to work two (2) days a week (M-F) in Lifelong’s Georgetown office.
  • All staff are currently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to COVID-19, and proof of full COVID-19 vaccination is required upon hiring.
