LifeSource is hiring an Organ Recovery and Preservation Services Supervisor to be responsible for providing day-to-day oversight and guidance to the Surgical Recovery Coordinators as a member of the Organ Services Team. This Supervisor serves as the subject matter expert for case and workflow management in an effort to maximize organ donation opportunities.
As Supervisor, you will provide guidance, education and mentoring to the Preservation team to facilitate efficiency and effectiveness in the donation process while encouraging the professional development and achievement of individual and departmental goals. In addition, you will ensure the team’s adherence to all regulatory and accrediting agency standards.
Please note : This leader will be required to maintain the clinical knowledge, skills and abilities and serves as a back-up to the Surgical Recovery Coordinator team during times of clinical high volume. (additional detail below)
As an Organ Recovery and Preservation Services Supervisor, you'll advance our life-saving work by performing the following job responsibilities :
Provide guidance, leadership, and support to team members on clinical activity by maintaining in-depth knowledge of the role, responsibilities, administrative and logistical processes.
- Actively engage in oversight of work processes to ensure the effective execution of organizational work systems.
- Provide real-time clinical and administrative expertise and oversight aimed at maximizing donation during the recovery process, including scheduling and real-time follow up and response to capacity needs.
- Conducts rounding with all assigned team members monthly.
- Problem solve with organ services team members and provide clinical and logistical expertise in all areas of the donation process.
- Direct resources and supervise team members during organ recovery and preservation.
- Collaborate with Manager and Training and Education Program Administrator(s) to execute day-to-day planning supporting the orientation and development needs of the team’s newest team members.
- Maintain an awareness of active referrals and case activity.
- Assess data reports and dashboard to measure optimal performance metrics to assess opportunities for improvement.
- Initiate and support on-going process improvement methodologies to maintain quality and consistency and reduce errors.
- Foster, promote and sustain cross-departmental collaboration in support of optimal department and organization outcomes.
- Oversee and evaluate performance goals. Initiate continuous development and improvement of policies, processes and procedures to achieve organizational goals.
- In conjunction with Quality, ensure compliance with CMS, OPTN / UNOS, and FDA standards.
- Collaborate to ensure customer and partner requirements, including transplant centers, donor hospitals, funeral directors, medical examiners, tissue processors are met and / or exceeded.
- Engage in root cause analysis, follow through and timely documentation of all non-conformance and compliance reports.
Lead, guide and supervise team members toward successful work process implementation to achieve LifeSource’s mission and goals.
Participate in regular individual and team meetings to review programs, activities, and accomplishments and provide timely and critical information needed for the team’s success.Direct work planning, scheduling, managing timesheets, time off requests, expense reports, performance planning, etc., to ensure adequate capacity and adherence to policies.Guide and mentor team members to encourage professional development and goal achievement.Support effective team member training and competency measurement for their position and required work processes.Lead and support the provision of continuity of services from the department to the organization.
Professionally engage with various internal and external partners ensuring successful coordination and completion of the donation and recovery process.Assist with the evaluation, development and implementation of strategies for new transplant customer requirements.Demonstrate professional representation and knowledge of the recovery process during interactions with other related donation organizations, including, but not limited to hospitals, transplant centers, funeral homes, eye banks, medical examiners, and coroners.In times of clinical high volume / as needed, engage in on-site coordination and facilitation of all aspects of surgical recovery, preservation, packaging, and transportation for organ donation cases.
Assemble, package and transport preservation supplies and equipment for transportation to donation site.Collaborate with donor hospital partners to ensure effective operating room setup, instrumentation and back tables are optimal to facilitate the organ donation process.Utilizing sterile technique, scrub in to assemble sterile supplies and packaging materials on back tables.Engage in critical thinking while collaborating with transplant surgeons to optimize recovery.Real time independent evaluation of unique circumstances, determining an appropriate course of action using established resources and guidance from others.Facilitate preservation and packaging of organs for transplantation or research in accordance with transplant center requirements, focusing on maintaining viability by following Organ Procurement Transplant Network (OPTN) standards and LifeSource procedures.Execute and monitor mechanical preservation of organs by positioning cannula and placement of organs on pulsatile perfusion device using sterile technique to optimize organ acceptance.Complete post case activities including organ delivery and terminal cleaning, documentation, and restocking.Ensure donor referral / case record completion within established timelines and quality review as needed.WORKING CONDITIONS
Able to work a minimum of 40 hours per week with schedule adjusted to accommodate organizational needs. Per LOC, participate in 24-hour call schedule rotation. Requires ability to support team and organizational needs occurring weekdays, nights, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to adjust schedule to accommodate organizational needs during times of clinical high volume. May be required to work for extended periods of time with few breaks.Environmental influences may include unpleasant odors, slippery surfaces, work in operating rooms at hospitals, temperature variations, exposure to human tissue and associated hazards and biohazards.Ability to lift objects up to 50 pounds and transfer short distances. Ability to push / pull up to 150 pounds with assistance. Heavier objects should be lifted and transferred using team help.Able to travel within the service area (MN, ND, SD) by ground or air.Affected team members in OSHA Exposure Category I are regularly exposed to bloodborne pathogens and handle materials that could spread infection (more than one opportunity per month). Additionally, their position may require interaction with staff in patient or donor areas in a hospital, medical examiner office, funeral home, or clinic setting.Must be able to follow and successfully complete category immunization, health screening and background check requirements.QUALIFICATIONS
Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to five years of medical / surgical responsibilities, including proven practiced knowledge of human anatomy and aseptic / sterile technique.Prefer previous professional experience within the organ and tissue donation industry with a minimum of 1 year of experience as a Surgical Recovery Coordinator, Surgical Technologist, or First Assist preferred.Requires demonstrated and proven formal and / or informal leadership capabilities.Requires Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator (CPT) designation or ability to obtain within 1 year of position. Once certified, you must obtain the required continuing education or recertification credits / process.Requires Preceptor certification obtained within one year with consistent professional execution of preceptor specialty knowledge, skills, abilities, and responsibilities.Must maintain a valid driver license and have reliable personal automobile to be used with company reimbursement using IRS guidelines .Demonstrated ability to foster, promote and sustain cross-departmental collaboration or cross team collaboration.Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills are essential.Must be organized, detail oriented, self-directed, motivated contributor with ability to function autonomously and effectively lead others.Confident critical thinking, analytical skills, problem-solving capabilities to execute reasonable and sound decision making.Demonstrated ability to exhibit a high degree of quality, integrity, and honor confidentiality of appropriate information including, but not limited to, personal team member data, organizational operations or work processes, donor and donor family information, contributor details, any financial information and medical or protected health information (PHI) in accordance with HIPAA.Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.Proven skilled and competent in using technology-based tools such as personal computers and related software, mobile devices, and electronic medical record systems as appropriate for position.Projected offer range : $94k-115k, depending on relevant experience
