Position Description:
· The LifeStar EMS Instructor is a part-time position located at LifeStar Emergency Services in Winston -Salem, NC and reports to the EMS Manager / EMS Program Director.

· The EMS Instructor teaches in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings.
· The EMS Instructor performs a variety of administrative duties in support of the EMS education program including (but not limited to) planning, selection, organization, implementation, supervision, facilitation, and evaluation of the learning experience of current LifeStar employees and students.
· Under the direction of the EMS Manager / EMS Program Director, the EMS Instructor is responsible for preparing, delivering didactic, and laboratory education meeting or exceeding NHTSA, NC Office of EMS, and National Standards curriculum.
EMS Instructor Responsibilities:
· Displays a positive, professional image of LifeStar Emergency Services and the EMS profession at all times.
· Serves as a mentor/role model to students, FTO’s, field EMT’s, and the EMS community.
· Assists the EMS Manager / EMS Program Director with administrative and program duties as assigned.
· Assists the EMS Manager / EMS Program Director by providing guidance for curriculum revision and development.
· Assists LifeStar Administration with long-term and short-range education planning.
· Planning, placement, and supervision of students engaged in classroom and clinical education to include initial and continuing education courses.
· Remains familiar with NC OEMS curriculum and testing standards.
· Prepares academic schedules for online submission to NC OEMS, selecting textbooks and submitting accurate and timely information to the EMS Manager / EMS Program Director.
· Recommends appropriate training equipment.
· Performs equipment inventories and maintenance.
· Ensures student safety in the classroom, lab and around equipment.
· Assists in recruiting and evaluating qualified adjunct instructors.
· Creates and maintains a current syllabus and ensures a syllabus is available for all courses being taught.
· Maintains a variety of regular and confidential documents including (but not limited to) general correspondence, reports, classroom and lab schedules, skills check-off forms, and memorandums; prepares copies of documents; distributes information.
· Updates and maintains files as requested by the EMS Manager / EMS Program Director; assists with the collection of data as requested.
· Participates in educational program reviews.
· Continues professional development for the improvement of self and the program to meet the needs of a learning-centered environment.
· Participates in student and new employee recruitment, retention, advising, and registration.
· Performs other duties as assigned by the EMS Manager / EMS Program Director.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
· Possess a High School Diploma (or equivalent).
· Possess and maintain a valid North Carolina driver’s license and an excellent driving record.
· Possess and maintain a current North Carolina EMT credential.
· Possess and maintain a current certification in Healthcare Provider CPR (AHA or ARC).
· Possess a NC OEMS Level I EMS Instructor credential at the EMT Level.
· 5 years of clinical experience with an established field EMS provider at the EMT level.
· 3 years of teaching experience.
· Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
· Working knowledge/utilization of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software applications.
· Working knowledge/utilization of online learning platforms such as Moodle®, Blackboard®, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Excellent communication, critical thinking, and decision-making skills, computer applications proficiency, and the ability to work effectively with others.
· Experience in educational methodology, curriculum development, test construction, and knowledge measurement & evaluation.
· Evidence of being a detail-oriented professional.
· Evidence of effective problem-solving abilities.
· Evidence of a strong work ethic with a proven track record of project completion, multi-tasking, and the ability to handle high-pressure environments.
· Evidence of a willingness to accept responsibility for professional and personal growth.
· Current instructor certification in Healthcare Provider CPR (AHA or ARC).
