Description
Responsible for the smooth and efficient daily operations of assigned center/mobile. Immediately resolves daily issues that arise to ensure an excellent experience for every donor. Responsible for the daily supervision, oversight and operations of collection activities to ensure center/mobile achieves daily goals. Provides excellent customer service while conducting donor registration, donor interviews, limited physical assessments, whole blood collection, collection of apheresis components using Alyx and/or Trima, apheresis recruitment and rebooking of donor appointments. Monitors donor/patient recovery and provides adverse donor reaction care management. Responsible for use and care of various pieces of equipment and performing daily quality control. Serves as a preceptor and mentor at the request of management.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Oversees the daily operations of assigned center/mobile to ensure collection targets are achieved, donor flow is smooth, and donor expectations are met/exceeded
Immediately addresses all concerns/issues that arise during the daily operations of assigned center/mobile.
Following Standard Operating Procedures; determines donor eligibility, conducts mini-physical, and collects blood from donors.
Responsible for oversight of daily collection operations of the mobile or fixed site including, but not limited to: opening/closing Donor IID, approval of daily QC, proper documentation of daily activities, monitor donor flow, staff assignments, direct contact with chairperson and RAM (mobiles only), report Tele-RN use and stats required to Quality Assurance (if unlicensed). Ensures staff follows time clock procedures including taking proper rest and meal breaks.
Performs all duties related to the collection and handling of blood and blood products (e.g. computerized medical history screening, whole blood phlebotomy and collection, handling donor recovery and adverse reactions, loading, set-up and tear down of equipment, packing and handling of blood products and performing daily quality control.)
Performs single and multi-component apheresis collection procedures using Alyx and/or Trima. Collects pre-donation samples and other test samples, as needed.
Drives company vehicles, as required.
Maintains complete and accurate records related to donor procedures, quality control, cleaning records and training documentation.
Ensures entire team is actively recruiting donors for apheresis donation and educates donors regarding promotions and new initiatives (e.g. ExpressPass, LifeStream App).
Serves as a preceptor and mentor for trainees assigned for hands-on practice and new team members. Reports trainee progress back to the Training Department.
(If licensed) Performs deferral and eligibility overrides, per procedure. Conducts health history interviews, blood/apheresis collection on autologous, therapeutic and other ‘special’ patients.
Performs other duties, at the discretion of management, as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required.
Associate’s Degree (AS) or Bachelor’s Degree (BS) in Nursing or equivalent work experience (if licensed).
Will accept experience in whole blood and/or apheresis collection in lieu of degree.
Optional: Medical Assistant Diploma, Certified Nursing Assistant Diploma, Emergency Medical Technician Certificate, Phlebotomy Certificate or similar military experience/certification.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum 1 year of experience as a Donor Specialist III, Donor Specialist III/Driver II, or Collections Training Instructor, is preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, ETC.
Current California Driver’s License, current CPR Certification.
Current California Registered Nurse (RN) License (if licensed).
