Controller
Job Summary:
The Controller will plan and direct the accounting operations of the company.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Oversees the operations of the Accounting Department, which include accounts payable, accounts receivable, and staff accountant; directs activities of reporting employees.
- Participates in the hiring, training, and performance management of accounting team in accordance with company policy.
- Oversees training programs and identifies training needs.
- Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Accurately and timely prepares monthly statements, including balance sheets, profit and loss, and other complex analysis and statements.
- Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
- Ensures polices and procedures of the company are carried out in a manner consistent with the goals and objectives as set forth in the Mission Goals and Strategic Plan of the company; ensures all department actions are accomplished in an ethical and prudent manner.
- Oversees the production of periodic financial reports and monthly balance sheet reconciliation; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards.
- Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks; maintains proper accountability of the company’s assets through physical count and reconciliation.
- Recommends benchmarks that will be used to measure the company’s performance.
- Produces the annual budget and forecasts; reports significant budget differences to management; assists in preparation of forecasts and budgets, with input from Department Managers.
- Works with external auditors/outside accounting firms and provides needed information for the annual audit or other financials requested regarding the preparation and maintenance of the business.
- Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
- Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Economics or Finance, or Business Administration with an emphasis on Finance required.
- Five years or more of related experience required.
- Accounting knowledge of: A/R, A/P, GL, budget planning, cash flow forecasting, and financial reporting.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
