We empower young people through innovative arts and wellness programs that foster creativity, self-expression, and personal growth. We are currently seeking a passionate Teaching Artist to join our Breathe Youth Arts Program, focusing on visual arts.
About Breathe Youth Arts Program
Since its launch in 2012, Breathe Youth Arts Program has provided free, year-round arts sessions for youth in grades 5-12 in Madisonville, Kentucky. Our community-based program nurtures creativity while offering a safe, supportive environment for self-expression, meaningful dialogue, and personal and social transformation. Through artistic exploration, we inspire cooperation, teamwork, and essential social skills, ensuring every youth feels valued and celebrated.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and deliver engaging visual arts lessons that accommodate a range of skill levels and interests.
- Teach various art forms, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and other creative mediums.
- Encourage creative thinking and self-expression in a supportive and inclusive environment.
- Provide constructive feedback and guidance to help students develop their artistic skills.
- Collaborate with the program team to plan and participate in community events, exhibitions, and showcases.
- Maintain a safe and organized art studio environment, including managing art supplies and equipment.
- Build positive relationships with students, parents, and community members.
- Uphold the organization's values of diversity, equity, and inclusion in all interactions and programming.
- Collaborate with the organization's leadership team.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Experience teaching visual arts to youth, preferably in a community-based or nonprofit setting.
- Strong knowledge of various art techniques, materials, and mediums.
- Passion for working with young people and supporting their artistic development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to create an inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment.
- Flexibility to work evening or weekend hours as needed for programs or events.

Qualifications and Skills:

- Must be at least 18 years old and a US citizen or lawful permanent resident.
- Valid state driver's license, reliable transportation, and a satisfactory driving record.
- Willingness to undergo a criminal background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least 1 year of experience in youth mentoring, teaching, or community outreach.
- College degree in a related field is a plus.
- Experience working with culturally diverse communities.
- Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, video production applications, and social networking.
