Position Summary:

Buyer II will play a key role in the product development process by identifying, evaluating, and obtaining quotes from suppliers. This position is responsible for procuring materials, equipment, tools, parts, and services on the most favorable terms for the organization. The ideal candidate will demonstrate creativity, versatility, accountability, and strong organizational skills. They will support the company in meeting product development objectives while remaining dedicated to meeting financial targets.

Required Education, Experience & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management or equivalent (preferred)
  • Minimum of 4 years in supply chain or sourcing for new product development (NPD) (preferred)
  • Ability to negotiate supplier agreements effectively to reach mutually beneficial terms (i.e. pricing, MOQ, lead time)
  • Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems
  • Regular and effective use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Personal organization with proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis and implementation of solutions
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with suppliers and build strong relationships
  • Maintain personal organization to ensure effective execution of multiple tasks and timelines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to be both a diplomat and an enforcer when appropriate, escalating concerns effectively and in a timely manner

Deliverables:

  • Timely and efficient sourcing of components, equipment, tooling, or services for NPD
  • Strategic supplier management, including optimizing supplier base size
  • Achievement of supply chain goals aligned with corporate and NPD objectives

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supplier Identification and Management
    • Locate and pre-qualify domestic and international suppliers to support new products with expertise, technologies, innovation, and services
    • Pursue suppliers aligned with the company’s Supply Chain Strategic Plan
    • Track purchases, monitor vendor quality, and maintain a database of supplier information
    • Establish purchasing drivers for new materials including initial forecast to achieve optimal initial inventory investments
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Serve as the liaison between suppliers and LightCorp Engineering for tool and equipment specifications, design review and approvals, costs, and timing
    • Work with cross-functional teams to support product development and accelerate speed-to-market initiatives
    • Ensure a thorough handoff of newly developed products to Production Control
  • Tool and Asset Management
    • Complete initial setup of external tool tracking for LightCorp and customer assets
  • Process Improvement and Cost Savings
    • Provide recommendations for cost savings to the Director of Supply Chain
    • Support and execute supply chain initiatives to meet company objectives
  • Engineering Change and Special Requests Management
    • Support in conjunction with Production Control Manager all tasks for engineering changes (ECs) and communicate updates to Production Planners
    • Support in conjunction with Production Control Manage all tasks for special requests and ensure proper communication with Production Planners
  • Additional Information
    • Travel required – overseas and domestic travel as needed
    • Bi-lingual is a plus (English and Mandarin or Spanish)
