POSITION TITLE : ADL Instructor - Teacher of the Visually Impaired Intern
REPORTS TO : Kevin Hollinger, S.O.A.R. Program Director

The ADL Instructor internship is for the domain of cooking. This non-paid, volunteer position provided specialized instruction to youth with visual impairments in the domain of Cooking and Kitchen Management. Individualized and group instruction includes kitchen management and labeling, meal planning, food safety, food preparation, cutting / chopping skills, recipes, appliance use (microwave, stove, convection, toaster oven, etc.), utensil use, measuring, etc.

- Mandatory In-Person / Virtual Training Meeting - Saturday, April 27, 2024 (8am-2 : 00pm)
- In-Person Core Program Sunday, June 9, 2024 - Saturday, June 29, 2024

The length of the internship will be established with the Director of SOAR.Mandatory Post-S.O.A.R. In-Person / Virtual Wrap-Up Meeting - September 2024 (5 : 30pm-8 : 00pm). Date to be determined.DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES :
Adhere to Reimbursement Schedule if applicable based on written agreement from the Director at the time of internship confirmation.Attend all pre-and post-S.O.A.R. meetings, individual trainings and / or group trainings.Attend all scheduled morning and afternoon staff meetings.Provide input and feedback to Director for program development and refinement.Provide individualized and group instruction and consultation for participants as scheduled by the Director.Assist with material preparation / distribution to include Braille, large print, tactile conversion, copying, binding, and inventory of supplies.Assist with off-campus activities as scheduled by the Director.Determine supply needs and complete requisition requests to be approved by Director.Compose and submit daily student progress notes.Compose and submit individualized comprehensive evaluation reports.Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS :
Prefer four-year and / or graduate degree with current licensure / certification in Visual Impairment (TVI, COMS, CVRT, CATIS), Special Education, Family Consumer Science, or other Related Professions.Prefer prior / current experience working with children with visual impairment or blindness.
Equivalent work experience may be considered.Prefer graduates from AERBVI approved / accredited university programs.Prefer prior employment, internship and / or volunteerism in S.O.A.R. or other Lighthouse for the Blind St. Louis sponsored programs.Preference for competency in Unified English Braille (UEB) and use of screen reading and assistive technologies.This position is non-paid but does offer reimbursement of most expenses for eligible employees.You must successfully complete the following requirements :Verify I-9 employment eligibility in-person or virtually with a Lighthouse for the Blind Human Resource's representative.Complete the web-based E-verify process to confirm eligibility for employment within the United States.This offer is contingent upon completion of satisfactory background screening, and drug test covered by Lighthouse for the Blind.Submit proof of a completed Mandatory Reporter training by April 1, 2024.Obtain First-Aid and CPR certification by April 1, 2024.You must adhere to the enclosed S.O.A.R.
