Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Construction Manager to oversee and lead our diverse portfolio of projects across Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, Washington, D.C., and Florida. The Construction Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and safety. LMI’s customers are Government, Industrial, and Commercial. This position requires a hands-on leader with a proven track record in managing, scheduling, and estimating within the electrical construction industry. LMI has 2-3 skilled estimators feeding construction and a highly skilled project coordinator to support operations.
Key Responsibilities:
· Project Management: Oversee all aspects of construction projects, including planning, execution, and closeout.
· Scheduling: Develop and manage project schedules to ensure timely completion while addressing potential delays.
· Estimating: While supported by multiple estimators, the Construction Manager will also be responsible for completing some estimating tasks mostly CO’s.
· Excavation and Foundations: understand the process of excavating and constructing deep foundations, some of which reach depths of 40 feet and diameters of 5 feet. Understand and interpret geotechnical reports to guide project execution effectively. Ensure proper equipment, such as digger derricks and pressure diggers, is utilized for optimal results.
· Directional Drilling Expertise: Be well-versed in horizontal directional drilling and pressure drilling techniques to support various project requirements.
· Leadership: Supervise and coordinate the efforts of project teams, subcontractors, and vendors.
· Quality Assurance: Ensure all work complies with industry standards, project specifications, and safety regulations.
· Budget Management: Monitor project budgets and expenses, identifying and addressing cost overruns proactively.
· Travel: Visit job sites across MD, VA, NC, DC, and FL as required to oversee progress and ensure alignment with project goals.
· Client Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring their needs and expectations are met.
· Problem-Solving: Identify and resolve project challenges, mitigating risks and ensuring successful outcomes.
· Relationships: Cultivate great relationships with key customers to ensure a steady work schedule. Key customers include GCs, Manufacturers, and Government Agencies.
· Documentation: Maintain accurate project documentation, including contracts, change orders, and progress reports.
Expertise in Bid and Contract Management:
The Construction Manager must possess a comprehensive understanding of bid and performance bonds, ensuring that all contractual obligations are met to secure project funding and performance guarantees. Expertise in reviewing Invitations for Bid (IFB) and responding appropriately with detailed, competitive proposals is essential. Additionally, the Construction Manager should understand the key distinctions between IFBs and Requests for Proposals (RFPs), recognizing that IFBs are primarily cost-focused while RFPs emphasize overall value, including technical solutions and qualifications. This knowledge is critical to navigate and secure opportunities in both public and private sectors effectively.
Minority Requirements in Government Contracting:
Many government contracts include Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) participation goals that must be met by engaging qualified subcontractors or suppliers. The Construction Manager must have thorough knowledge of these requirements and the ability to navigate and comply with them effectively. This includes identifying and vetting MBE-certified businesses, incorporating them into project planning and execution, and maintaining accurate documentation to ensure compliance. The Construction Manager must also foster strong working relationships with MBE subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring their contributions meet project specifications and deadlines while adhering to government regulations.
Qualifications:
· Master Electrician certification.
· Minimum of 10 years of experience in construction management, with a focus on electrical contracting.
· Comprehensive knowledge of Miss Utility regulations.
· Ability to read and interpret geotechnical reports and apply insights to construction planning.
· Familiarity with excavation processes and constructing deep foundations.
· Proficiency in operating and managing trade-specific equipment, including digger derricks, pressure diggers, and bucket trucks.
· Proven expertise in managing, scheduling, and estimating construction projects.
· Strong understanding of Sportslighting, LED upgrades, and commercial construction.
· Exceptional leadership and team management skills.
· Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
· Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
· Proficiency in project management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
· Familiarity with safety regulations and industry standards.
· Ability and willingness to travel as required.
· Bachelor’s degree in construction management, or a related field is preferred but not required.
