What You’ll do
The Vice President is the lead and company face of preconstruction and EPC contractor engagement. The Vice President is responsible for a team of 8-10 people, negotiating EPC agreements, building strong relationships with EPCs, overseeing preconstruction and due diligence for all projects, as well as conducting strategic planning for EPC contractor bidding, selection, and contract negotiation. The Vice President works closely with internal stakeholders such as project finance, development, and project management, and will support the construction organization on non-project specific work such as internal reporting, hiring, process improvement, and strategic initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities
- EPC Tendering
- Establish and deliver on EPC contractor procurement strategy
- Determine and / or confirm the most appropriate construction delivery method for each project. While turnkey EPC delivery is generally preferred, market or project conditions may merit consideration of other delivery methods.
- Oversee development of scope documents and bid packages for EPC contracts, attend bid-walks, evaluate bids, and select contractors to perform the work.
- Negotiate and execute complete EPC contracts for all construction projects to meet company financial and schedule targets.
- Facilitate and conduct project partnering and construction-phase hand-off meetings to effectively transition management responsibility of each project to the construction delivery team
- Preconstruction
- Support the sales, development, and finance teams during the early, mid, and late-stage development of projects. This includes generating preliminary project schedules, budgets, attending site walks, producing estimates, reviewing off-taker RFP documentation, and evaluating permitting requirements.
- Support the development and pre-construction efforts by reviewing site feasibility and permitting studies, project entitlements and zoning / permitting packages, land access and easement agreements.
- Attend community engagement events and interviews with off-take / PPA counterparties as part of RFP solicitation to represent the company and present the construction team’s organization and capabilities.
- Engage the marketplace to identify and build relationships with suitable contractors, labor unions, and other relevant agencies and trade organizations to maximize competitiveness and support each project delivery strategy.
- Oversee pre-construction activities including buyout, review, and execution of due diligence studies.
- Review preliminary designs and engineering to ensure compliance with other project agreements, permits, etc.
- Prepare / coordinate project schedules to ensure projects meet milestones
- Coordinate with interconnection and engineering teams to review and align expectations for interconnection agreements.
- Coordinate with procurement and technical teams to ensure Owner-Supplied Equipment meets project requirements and is delivered on schedule.
- Construction
- Participate in monthly project reviews in support of construction team to ensure continuity of negotiated terms.
- Review monthly project reports, schedules, and budget forecasts to identify issues and trends across the portfolio.
- Support construction team in interpretation and understanding compliance monitoring and contract management obligations.
