Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the maintenance of a fleet of trailers.
- Responsible for a staff of 4-5 employees.
- Provides hands-on mechanical expertise and support to your staff.
- Maintain a preventative maintenance program to ensure safe working conditions, minimal production downtime, and equipment sustainability.
- Maintain inventories and order parts, as needed, for equipment.
- Consult, obtain bids, and work closely with outside contractors/parts Manager/and Transportation supervisor.
- Supervise and train CDL Drivers and troubleshoot all equipment on plant site.
- Coordinate personnel schedules to accommodate call-ins and 24/7 repair and driver coverage.
- Act as Safety Committee representative with a commitment to safety excellence.
- Provide regular reports for the Manager regarding safety and maintenance concerns and projects.
- Performs daily repairs to trailers from Vehicle Repair Orders.
- Performs scheduled repairs such as brake jobs, etc.; responsible for diagnosis to ensure proper repairs are carried out.
- Repairs and/or replaces trailer parts such as tires, springs, hydraulic cylinders, hoses etc.
- Conducts electrical and lighting repairs on equipment.
- Responsible for emergency after-hours support.
- Responsible for DOT inspections.
- Maintains accurate and up to date trailer maintenance information.
- Perform tire maintenance.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Communicate with yard crew regarding trailer maintenance.
- Observe safety and security procedures, report potentially unsafe conditions.
- Attend educational, industry sessions and seminars as deemed necessary by management.
- Attend and participate in all required staff meetings, driver, and plant safety meetings.
- Participate in employee performance management, hiring, disciplinary and termination meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Education:
- High School diploma or GED required.
- CDL A license is required.
- Knowledge and experience with air brakes and ABS systems.
- Knowledge of warranty policies and procedures
- Demonstrated ability to learn regulations, including, but not limited to DOT and OSHA standards and codes as they apply to the manufacturing industry.
- Will need to do some lifting of supplies, materials, and heavy toolboxes from time to time; can be frequently up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
- Requires good technical and problem-solving skills.
- Required to provide basic set of personal tools.
- Must be able to troubleshoot and repair equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Requires experience using all forms of power and hand tools, welding, forklift and heavy equipment operation.
- Must have computer experience and be proficient with Microsoft Office.
