What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surgical Technician - Surgery position at Lima Memorial Health System?
Functioning within the Health System’s mission, values, objectives, procedures and policies, the Surgical Technician functions under the direction of the Registered Nurse and physicians to provide quality patient care. The Surgical Technician is responsible to assist in the delivery of care for the surgical patient. The Surgical Technician functions as both the primary and the secondary technician in all areas of Surgical Services including, but not limited to, General, Ortho, OB/GYN, Podiatry, Urology, Neuro, Vascular, ENT, Plastics, Hybrid, Robotics and Laser cases. Judgments are made based upon clinical skills. S/he functions as a messenger and a transporter when required, and is responsible for facilitating communication within the unit as well as with other Health System departments. Once training is completed, the Surgical Technician is expected to be part of the on-call rotation in the respective area of training. On-call response time within 30 minutes required. On-call frequency will be determined in accordance with departmental guidelines.
Education: Must be a graduate of an LPN program and hold a valid unrestricted LPN license. Will accept an RN student who has completed 2nd quarter or 1st semester clinicals in a nursing associate’s degree or diploma program or is a second year student in a BSN program.
Licensure/Certification: BLS required.
Experience: One year of experience in an O.R. setting preferred.
Skills: Must have a willingness to train in all facets of Surgical Services including, but not limited to, Ortho, General, OB/GYN, Urology, ENT, Neuro, Vascular, Plastics, Hybrid, Robotics, and Laser cases. Must be a highly motivated, dependable individual willing to work in a fast-paced, stressful environment. . Must also have excellent interpersonal skills including the demonstrated ability to communicate in a professional manner with patients and their families, coworkers and physicians. A professional attitude and demeanor is required at all times. Must demonstrate flexibility with work schedule changes. Must be able to work in a fast paced environment and quickly adapt to change throughout the shift. Must also possess strong organizational and prioritization skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
