Lead Compac Sizer Operator

SUMMARY:  

The Lead Compac Sizer Operator is responsible for the operation and maintenance of all equipment needed to run the packing line.  

 SHIFT: 2nd Shift Position 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Set up and safe operation of the equipment; perform all necessary pre-start checks
• Responsible for general equipment repairs including, but not limiting preventive maintenance, cleaning, and troubleshooting to ensure accuracy of equipment 
• Ensure all equipment performs proper shutdown procedures 
• Maintain all electronics and hardware in clean and good operating condition
• Coordinate packing materials with Material Handler 
• Calibrate with other units on a regular basis; certify equipment is in proper performance 
• Monitor continuously all relevant performance metrics, adjust as needed to correct deviations
• Complete downtime tracking documentation; maintain daily operator logbook and document observations, machine adjustments, etc. 
• Monitor fruit samples for quality, size, and grade and identify when adjustments are necessary
• Facilitate training on all equipment 
• Communicate with management and employees all vital information including, but not limiting equipment malfunctions and safety precautions
• Mentor and train employees as needed 
• Must comply with all Safety and Food Safety rules and regulations •       Perform all other duties as directed by Management.
• Maintain grade levels and percentages; ensure all fruit levels are at a minimum base

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and 2 years experience in equipment operation and maintenance; knowledge of fruit, fruit quality, and grade characteristics is preferred; computer skills and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.

SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Must have good communication skills, speak, read, and write in English, Spanish fluency preferred; must be able to prioritize tasks; have the ability to perform light mechanical troubleshooting and parts replacement; basic mathematical skills and understanding of ratios, minimums, maximums, and percentages; ability to be cross-trained and develop knowledge in all production areas/processes throughout the plant (from Wash to Pack)

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will need to be able to stand, sit, and walk for long periods, be able to bend, stoop, squat, push, and pull in a safe manner;  the employee will also need to be able to use of hands and fingers, and be able to grasp with both right and left hand; must have dexterity in the fingers, hands, and feet; must be able to hear normal and soft tones and be able to talk; must have normal or corrected to 20/40 eyesight; must be able to lift to 20 pounds; must be able to twist from left to right and right to left from waist and turn neck both left and right.

This is an indoor position working around machinery; the packinghouse may be cold during the winter and hot during the summer.
