Cost Engineer
Job Summary
The Cost Engineer is responsible for cost estimation for new business and existing parts, driving cost reduction initiatives, and collaborating with cross functional teams to enhance profitability. Proficiency in cost software and a strong understanding of automotive materials, commodities and manufacturing processes are essential for this role.
Responsibility
- Develop accurate cost estimates for new business opportunities and existing parts, considering materials, manufacturing processes and supply chain factors.
- Collaborate with cross functional teams to identify and implement cost reduction strategies, such as material optimization, process improvements, and supplier negotiations.
- Evaluate supplier proposals to ensure cost competitiveness and alignment with project requirements.
- Partner with suppliers to analyze cost structures and negotiate pricing.
- Provide detailed reports on cost performance, including variances and cost trends and present findings to internal stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain cost models for various commodities.
- Analyze cost drivers and identify opportunities for cost reduction.
- Perform benchmarking against industry standards to ensure competitive pricing.
- Provide cost insights during the design phase to influence material selection and manufacturing processes.
- Conduct value analysis and value engineering (VA / VE) to identify cost saving opportunities.
- Develop and maintain new cost database and ensure data accuracy for use in decision making.
