Job Description
The Set-Up Technician is responsible for complex operations and duties in high pressure die casting (HPDC) under general supervision. Responsibilities include tracking equipment performance and adjust set-ups, calibrations, and alignments. In addition, responsible for tracking data associated with HPDC and solve problems requiring extensive knowledge and experience.
Performance Expectations

Responsibilities include tracking equipment performance and adjust set-ups, calibrations, and alignments. In addition, responsible for tracking data associated with HPDC and solve problems requiring extensive knowledge and experience.
Performance Expectations
- Set up equipment.
- Modify CNC programs for lathes, milling machines, grinders and robots.
- Set up CNC lathes, milling machines, grinders based on process specifications.
- Evaluate “out of tolerance” conditions and make adjustments.
- Read and interpret CMM reports.
- Set up and maintain adjustable support tools (fixturing).
- Predict tool wear and tool changes based on SPC data.
- Identify, select and prepare tooling.
- Total the amounts of materials needed or the number of holes to drill, according to specifications.
- May measure pieces to verify that the size meets the specifications.
- Process and tooling improvements for cost reduction programs.
- Provide direct supervision to operators in absence of supervisor.
- Train and assist operators in troubleshooting as needed.
- Machine License or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum four years of Machine Shop experience.
- Intermediate understanding of CNC programming.
- Basic understanding of machine controls.
- Knowledge of SPC methods, process, machine capability requirements and lot control techniques.
- Ability to use a computer to confirm measurements or adjust computer control CNC machinery.
- Able to read computer-generated profile views.
- Able to interpret blue prints.
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting when needed.
- Ability to learn new specifications and procedures through on-the-job training and experience.
- Able to communicate both orally and written forms to various levels within the organization.
