Setup Technician - Die Casting

Job Description

The Set-Up Technician is responsible for complex operations and duties in high pressure die casting (HPDC) under general supervision. Responsibilities include tracking equipment performance and adjust set-ups, calibrations, and alignments. In addition, responsible for tracking data associated with HPDC and solve problems requiring extensive knowledge and experience.

Performance Expectations

• Set up equipment.
• Modify CNC programs for lathes, milling machines, grinders and robots.
• Set up CNC lathes, milling machines, grinders based on process specifications.
• Evaluate “out of tolerance” conditions and make adjustments.
• Read and interpret CMM reports.
• Set up and maintain adjustable support tools (fixturing).
• Predict tool wear and tool changes based on SPC data.
• Identify, select and prepare tooling.
• Total the amounts of materials needed or the number of holes to drill, according to specifications.
• May measure pieces to verify that the size meets the specifications.
• Process and tooling improvements for cost reduction programs.
• Provide direct supervision to operators in absence of supervisor.
• Train and assist operators in troubleshooting as needed.
  
  

Credentials

• Machine License or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum four years of Machine Shop experience.
• Intermediate understanding of CNC programming.
• Basic understanding of machine controls.
• Knowledge of SPC methods, process, machine capability requirements and lot control techniques.
• Ability to use a computer to confirm measurements or adjust computer control CNC machinery.
• Able to read computer-generated profile views.
• Able to interpret blue prints.
