Lincoln Academy, in Newcastle, ME seeks applications for a dynamic, creative, skilled Band Director to take over an established, award-winning program for the 2025-2026 school year. Founded in 1801, Lincoln Academy is an independent Town Academy deeply rooted in the midcoast communities of central Lincoln County. For 220 years we have served as an educational center for students from more than 15 towns in the region. In addition to our local students, the school enrolls up to 55 international and domestic boarding students. This results in an exciting mix of students, and the school is committed to providing an outstanding education for each of them.
Responsibilities include directing the beginner Concert Band and the experienced Wind Ensemble, as well as directing several Jazz Bands. The expectation is that the candidate will have the qualifications necessary to maintain the standard of excellence currently in place at Lincoln Academy. This will include the ability to instruct musicians in standard band instrument techniques and to prepare them for District and All State auditions. (In a typical year, 8-10 students qualify for All State and 25-30 students for Districts.) The candidate may also be called on to direct a small string orchestra and teach various other elective music offerings such as modern band, beginning and intermediate guitar, or AP Music Theory. Candidates need the ability to build strong programs and supportive relationships with students, performing arts faculty, parents, and school administration. Minimum education level: Bachelor’s Degree and either Maine Music Education Certification or willingness to acquire certification.
In addition to teaching responsibilities, faculty members are also required to advise a group of students, collaborate with colleagues and students in a diverse academic setting, and participate in some duties associated with the school’s boarding program. Experience with second language learners is helpful. Evidence of positive, professional relationships with students, colleagues, and parents and a commitment to continued professional development are also important qualifications.
