Health Education Specialist
Lincoln Community Health Center, Inc., a federally qualified community health center located in Durham, NC is recruiting for a Health Education Specialist. Durham is known as the Bull City, the City of Medicine, the Tastiest Town in the South, and the Startup Capital of the South. It’s a two-hour drive from the beach, a three-hour drive from the Blue Ridge Mountains, and is North Carolina’s fourth largest city by population. Along the East Coast, Durham is located conveniently along I-85. For those outside of driving distance, travel to and from is made easy as the City and County of Durham co-own the top-ranked Raleigh-Durham International Airport that services more than 45 nonstop destinations.
Position Summary:
The Health Education Specialist will be dedicated to promoting healthy behaviors necessary to reduce health risks, control chronic conditions, and prevent disease, injury, and disability.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Good knowledge of public health education principles and practices including needs assessment, information dissemination, and community organization relating to common health problems; basic disease etiologies and preventive strategies; survey methods and basic statistics used to collect and interpret data; and training methods. Good written and verbal communication and materials development skills. Desire an ability to work collaboratively, as a member of a team. Strong positive Customer Service Skills. Strong processing abilities. Strong problem-solving and communication skills. Ability to adapt education approach based on patient goals, learning preferences and abilities, educational attainment, socioeconomic status, culture, English proficiency, and age of clients.
Education and Experience:
The position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Health Education, Nursing, Social Work, or a related health field. One year of experience and CHES certification are desired. Spanish language fluency is a plus.
