Lincoln School, founded in 1884, is an independent K-12 Quaker girls’ school in Providence, Rhode Island. We are seeking applicants for a full-time Middle and Upper School English Department faculty member beginning in August 2025. The position includes two sections of Middle School English and two sections of Upper School English. Lincoln School values working with a diverse faculty and staff and seeks applications from individuals who share our commitment to educating girls to fearlessly embrace the opportunities and responsibilities of full citizenship in a complex world.
Through interactions with the written word in its many forms, English classes at Lincoln invite students to learn about themselves and the world. At every level, students develop their voices as writers and speakers, exercise critical thinking skills, and learn values for (and the value of) contributing to the broader conversation. Students tell their own stories and respond to others in the form of analysis, refl ection, discussion, and creative writing. Themes related to self-discovery, social justice, and the human condition weave throughout the curriculum.
Candidates should have experience with student-centered teaching and differentiation, together with confi dence and experience teaching English at the middle school and high school level. A bachelor's degree is required and a master’s degree is preferred. The ideal candidate for this position is enthusiastic about educating girls and young women, and eager to contribute to curricular choices which will help advance the aforementioned mission of Lincoln’s English program.
Applicants should have exemplary pedagogical skills, a passion for teaching and learning from young people, and a love for working with adolescents in all facets of their school experience. In addition to teaching four (4) classes at various grade levels, responsibilities include serving as a middle school advisor and supporting students outside of the classroom. Teachers at Lincoln maintain a refl ective practice that involves collaboration and critical dialogue with colleagues and division leadership about their teaching; they embrace and uphold Lincoln's values of diversity, equity and inclusion; and they bring anti-racist practices into their classroom.
