PURPOSE:
The HVAC Specialist is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems within university buildings. This role involves ensuring HVAC systems are running efficiently, conducting regular inspections, and troubleshooting issues. The HVAC Specialist will also be involved in system upgrades, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and making recommendations to improve energy efficiency and comfort levels across campus facilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Install, maintain, and repair HVAC systems, including heating, cooling, and ventilation equipment.
- Conduct regular inspections of HVAC systems to ensure proper functioning and compliance with university standards.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose system failures or inefficiencies, performing repairs as needed.
- Assist in system upgrades and retrofits to improve energy efficiency and reduce operational costs.
- Maintain accurate records of service, repairs, and inspections for compliance and reporting purposes.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and environmental regulations when working with HVAC systems.
- Collaborate with other facilities staff and departments to support special projects or building needs.
- Provide recommendations for improving system performance and energy savings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- Proven experience as an HVAC Technician or Specialist, with a strong understanding of HVAC systems and controls.
Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations:
- Certification or licensure in HVAC or related fields (e.g., EPA Certification for refrigerant handling).
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair HVAC systems effectively.
- Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and energy efficiency standards.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with building automation systems and HVAC control technologies.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Lifting and carrying objects of varying weights, standing for extended periods, walking frequently, climbing ladders, bending and stooping, reaching overhead, pushing or pulling heavy items, kneeling, crouching, manual dexterity for handling small objects, and good vision and hearing.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions.
