PURPOSE:
The landscaper is responsible for maintaining the aesthetic appearance and health of the university's outdoor spaces, including lawns, gardens, walkways, and other green areas. This role involves planting, pruning, mowing, and caring for trees, shrubs, flowers, and turf to ensure that the campus grounds are visually appealing and safe for students, faculty, and visitors. The Landscaper may also be tasked with installing and maintaining irrigation systems and assisting with seasonal landscaping projects.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain and beautify campus grounds, including mowing, trimming, planting, and weeding.
- Prune shrubs, trees, and plants to promote healthy growth and maintain aesthetic appeal.
- Install and maintain irrigation systems to ensure efficient watering of landscaped areas.
- Apply fertilizers, mulch, and pest control treatments as needed.
- Assist with seasonal landscaping projects such as planting seasonal flowers, preparing for winter, and spring clean-ups.
- Ensure the safety and cleanliness of walkways and outdoor areas by removing debris, leaves, and litter.
- Monitor the health of plants and trees, identifying any signs of disease or pests and taking appropriate action.
- Operate and maintain landscaping tools and equipment, including mowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers.
- Assist with setting up landscaping for university events or special projects.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in landscaping or grounds maintenance preferred.
- Knowledge of plant care, turf management, and irrigation systems.
- Ability to operate landscaping equipment safely and efficiently.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.
- A valid driver's license and ability to drive campus vehicles if required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Good physical stamina, as the role requires lifting and performing manual labor.
