PURPOSE:
Property Maintenance Technician I is an entry-level position responsible for supporting general maintenance tasks with a focus on construction-related duties. This role involves assisting with the upkeep of university buildings and facilities, including performing basic repairs, handling routine maintenance, and assisting with construction projects such as carpentry, drywall, painting, and other building improvement tasks. The technician will work closely with senior maintenance staff and construction teams to ensure campus properties are in good working condition.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assist with basic repairs and maintenance of building systems, including plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and mechanical components.
- Perform minor construction tasks such as carpentry (e.g., repairing doors, installing shelves), drywall patching, painting, and floor repairs.
- Assist in setting up, maintaining, and repairing campus infrastructure and facilities, including performing light construction-related work.
- Respond to work orders for general repairs and maintenance tasks, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
- Help with routine inspections of facilities to identify maintenance or construction needs.
- Collaborate with other maintenance staff and construction teams on larger renovation or construction projects.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of tools and equipment used for construction and maintenance tasks.
- Maintain accurate records of completed tasks, including repairs, maintenance, and construction activities.
- Follow safety guidelines and building codes to ensure the safety of work performed and compliance with university policies.
- Perform general grounds maintenance, including helping with outdoor repairs, landscaping, and facility upkeep when needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- Proven experience as a property maintenance technician with a strong background in construction, including carpentry, drywall, painting, and basic electrical/plumbing knowledge.
- Ability to work on both small-scale repairs and larger construction projects.
- Experience with operating construction tools and equipment (e.g., saws, drills, ladders, scaffolding).
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
- Valid driver's license and ability to operate university vehicles.
- Certifications in construction trades (e.g., carpentry, electrical, plumbing) are a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:
- Strong knowledge of building codes, construction techniques, and safety regulations (OSHA).
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Lifting and carrying objects of varying weights, standing for extended periods, walking frequently, climbing ladders, bending and stooping, reaching overhead, pushing or pulling heavy items, kneeling, crouching, manual dexterity for handling small objects, and good vision and hearing.
