Job Summary
The Veterans Services Specialist will support the operational and documentation needs of Veterans Affairs at Lincoln University. This role focuses on managing VA-related certifications, maintaining compliance with VA regulations, and ensuring efficient processing of paperwork for military-affiliated students. The position is part-time and temporary, designed to streamline processes and provide critical administrative support.
Key Responsibilities
- Certify and process GI Bill educational benefits for eligible students using VA-ONCE and related systems.
- Ensure timely updates to student enrollment statuses and documentation per VA regulations.
- Maintain accurate and organized records for all military-affiliated students, ensuring compliance with audit standards.
- Act as a liaison with the Bursar’s Office for certification dates and financial aid disbursement coordination.
- Assist students in understanding the VA benefits process and resolving basic documentation issues.
- Stay updated on VA policies and ensure all certifications and operations meet federal requirements.
- Prepare required reports for the Veterans Administration and university stakeholders.
- Respond to inquiries from military-affiliated students regarding benefits, timelines, and documentation.
- Coordinate messaging to students about deadlines, requirements, and updates related to VA benefits.
- Support events and initiatives that promote awareness of veterans’ resources and services (as needed).
- Perform other job-related duties that contribute to the efficient functioning of Veterans Affairs operations.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree required.
- Minimum of 2 years of administrative experience, preferably in higher education or a related field.
- Experience with VA-ONCE or similar systems is highly desirable.
Skills
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail, particularly in managing sensitive and confidential information.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to quickly learn new systems.
- Familiarity with VA educational benefits and military-affiliated student needs is preferred.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with team members and stakeholders.
Work Schedule and Environment
- Part-time, temporary (20-25 hours per week).
- Flexible schedule with occasional evening or weekend work as needed.
- Work primarily virtual or hybrid.
