What are the responsibilities and job description for the Program Assistant 2, Parenting Education position at Linn-Benton Community College?
Provides support for the College’s community-focused programs administered by Parenting Education. Supports and assists the Parenting Education Department in the achievement of key measures for grants and contracts in the Family Resource and Education Center (FREC).

Education and Experience:
Education and Experience:
- Position requires a minimum of 12 quarter credits of Child Development, Human Development, Family Studies, Early Childhood Education or Education
- OR work experience equivalent to three years of full-time experience working in a Community-Based Organization serving children and/or families.
Licenses and Certificates:
- Requires a valid Oregon driver’s license or access to transportation to attend required meetings and events.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Requires computer, word processing, excel, website, graphic design software, social media management, and database application skills.
- Requires strong record keeping and documentation skills.
- Requires good organizational, planning, communication, problem solving, customer relations and phone skills.
Abilities:
- Must be able to independently perform the duties of the position efficiently and effectively.
- Requires the ability to operate general office equipment including computers, word processing and database applications used by funders and the college.
- Requires the ability to maintain and revise established procedural systems and controls.
- Must be able to prioritize and organize tasks in order to meet schedules and timelines.
- Must be able to use judgment and discretion in determining tools, procedures and sequence of operations.
- Requires the ability to communicate formally and informally with contacts both inside and outside the college setting.
- Must be able to work respectfully with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Bilingual/bi-literate English/Spanish preferred.
- Experience and knowledge working in parenting education programs is preferred.
Education and Experience:
- Social media management and marketing experience preferred.
Physical Skills and Abilities:
- Requires ability to operate computer software and office equipment to perform essential duties of the job.
- Requires the ability to read words and numbers.
- Requires ability sufficient to carry on routine conversations in person and over the phone.
- May require lifting and manipulating light to medium-weight materials (10 to 25 lbs.).
Working Conditions:
- Work is normally performed in an office setting with minimal exposure to health and safety hazards.
- May require travel to community class locations, meetings and events within Linn, Benton and Lincoln Counties.
- Employees must provide their own transportation.
- Substantial time is spent working at a computer.
- May be required to work occasional evenings and/or weekends.
- Works with the Parenting Education team to create and distribute information to targeted audiences. This includes overseeing the production of the PSN website, calendar, and social media platforms. Creates and implements communication timelines and procedures.
- Develops marketing and promotional materials for the Parenting Education Department programs. Coordinates marketing and promotion of events and creates and distributes flyers and promotional materials.
- Utilizes social media to promote programs. Monitors the Parenting Education Department and Parenting Success Network websites and social media platforms for accuracy. Assists with Parenting Education department schedule review.
- Represents the College’s community-focused programs at various events, provides information and answers questions. Attends community partner meetings, takes minutes and provides information. Networks with community members, fosters opportunities for potential new partnerships.
- Provides information and assistance to community-focused programs including the Parenting Education department staff and community partners on a variety of matters requiring detailed knowledge of programs, procedures, policies and activities of the department and college.
- Provides support by tracking and communicating with instructors on college, department and grant requirements. Works closely with the Parenting Education Faculty in process improvement, and creating systems for efficient collection and analysis of data, etc. Makes recommendations for changes and improvements in policies and procedures and other aspects of department operations.
- Maintains database information, summarizes data, and prepares reports to meet the requirements of funders for Linn and Benton county programming.
- Assemble class materials including handouts, evaluations and class certificates for instructors. Compiles class evaluations.
- Coordinate childcare provided for community classes,, collect and enter data on the number of children served. Responds to last minute or urgent need to replace childcare providers due to unforeseen events/cancellations.
- Assists faculty and department chair in fundraising including research of new funding opportunities. Facilitates community outreach and follow up after events for feedback and continuous improvement.
- Serves as the first point of contact for public inquiries in the Parenting Education office. Answers phones, greets visitors, assists with registration of classes and workshops, and provides program information.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
