About Juvenile Detention & Diversion Services (JDDS) Supervisor:
Manages the daily operations of the Juvenile Detention & Diversion Services Center. Responsible for the supervision of the staff, their duties and their functions; oversees all daily activity associated with the Center and ensures that all legal requirements for residents are being met. Ensures systematic implementation and assessment of policies and program. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with collaterals that may include parents, other youth service agencies, the juvenile court and law enforcement agencies. Knows the County’s Customer-Centered Culture principles, the County’s Mission, Strategic Plan and Core Values and demonstrates a commitment to customer satisfaction for all customers on a regular basis. 
  • Supervises in the daily operation of the Juvenile Center and several community based Diversion Programs by leading a team of youth counselors, trackers &/or Intervention Counselors, continuous communication with staff; providing staff feedback and evaluations, and participating in management and staff meetings.   
  • Plans and implements staff development meetings by arranging for in-service training. Prepares payroll and monitors Novatime; scheduling of staff to maintain needed ratios and community coverage.
  • Supervises/monitors services offered to youth in the Center by assessing needs of residents and the Center. 
  • Screens referrals and monitors casework activities to ensure appropriateness and compliance with legal and regulatory criteria. 
  • Coordinates court hearings and transportation arrangements. 
  • Conducts intakes, maintains resident status, and ensures the daily census is thorough, accurate and relayed in a timely manner to collateral agencies.  
  • Delegates specific tasks, performs crisis intervention, and coordinates the behavior management program. 
  • Ensures that written care plans are properly developed, maintained and kept current. 
  • Tracks client and collateral contacts and assists in resident releases.
  • Implements, evaluates, and assesses daily program by conducting group meetings, ensuring appropriateness of referrals, implementing strategies, and adhering to behavioral program philosophies.
  • Communicates and coordinates with collaterals by gathering case information and providing written and verbal reports to referring agents and court, including, but not limited to, behavioral summaries. 
  • Gathers case information from social workers and juvenile court officers and ensures that records of all upcoming court proceedings, placement plans and other scheduled activities are completed and maintained accurately.
  • Assures crisis prevention and management through awareness of group dynamics by using programs and counseling techniques, using physical restraints when necessary, and determining when outside assistance is needed.
  • Ensures medical needs of youth are addressed by coordination of medical assessment and medical services, and supervising the dispensing of medication.  
  • Supervises the Detention Nurse and coordinating efforts with the Medical Director.
  • Knows the products they personally produce and the customers of each product. Listens to the “Voice of the Customer” and closes gaps between customer expectations and experience whenever possible.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in social sciences or a related field. 
  • Two (2) years of experience in the last five (5) years in a related field required with experience in the care, counseling, and management of dependent, neglected, or delinquent youth in a secure setting, including some experience in the development, supervision, or administration of juvenile corrections or child protective programs; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Additional relevant education or directly related experience may count towards minimum qualifications on a year for year basis at the discretion of the hiring manager.
  • Mandatory Child Abuse Reporter Training required.
  • Some positions may require the following specialized licenses and certifications: Medication Dispensing Certification, CPR Certification, Mandt Certification
  • Ability to read court orders, social histories, emails, behavioral observations, school reports, staff notes, resumes, medical instructions, and juvenile code.
  • Ability to write observations, Behavioral Reports, court reports, staff evaluations, letters/emails, admission notes and other forms.
  • Math skills needed for monitoring and management of behavioral point system, some ability to interpret statistical data, math tutoring skills, basic math calculations and collection of statistical data program related.
  • Ability to perform responsibilities of daily services, supervision of staff/residents; being accountable to staff, Juvenile Detention and Diversion Services Director & Manager, youth, and parents.
  • Ability to interact with but not limited to staff, youth, juvenile court officers, social workers, attorneys, police, sheriff, parents, teachers, trackers, counselors, and therapists.
  • Ability to operate vehicles, telephone and voicemail systems, cellular phone with data plan, handheld portable radios, stove, microwave, refrigerator, washers, dryers, VCR/DVD, fax machine, copier, tools (hammer, etc.), recreational equipment, fire alarms, DVtel playback system, Computer (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Evolv, EDMS, Novatime, Outlook, etc.), fax, backup generators, Novatime time clocks, VPN, mechanical restraints and security systems.
Special Necessary Requirements:
Must pass a County physical examination which includes a drug test after offer of employment. Subject to criminal and credit history review. Valid Driver’s License required. Regular work attendance required. Must remain awake and aware of surroundings at all times.  Wednesday - Saturday
2 p.m. - 12:00 a.m.
