Position Title:                        Performing Arts Center Coordinator
 
Immediate Supervisor:         High School Principal
 
Summary:  The Performing Arts Center Coordinator provides technical leadership of all school district events, rentals, and performing arts events held within the performing arts centers & the lecture hall of the high school.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:   (Other duties may be assigned.)
  1. Work collaboratively with performing arts departments and the district facilities use coordinator to coordinate and schedule the use of the performing arts centers & Lecture Hall by users from the schools in the district, district staff, and the greater community, including selected events such as IHSSA events, IHSMA events, etc.
  2. Monitor the use of the performing arts centers to assure safety and appropriateness and respond to unforeseen and emergency needs of the users.
  3. Determine the level of technical staffing needed for scheduled events and arrange for technical staff assistance in the use of the center. Ensure technical aspects of productions are properly advanced in a timely manner and that technical rider requirements and contractual items, as outlined in the agreement, are met.
  4. Coordinate light and sound for live events, or coordinate scheduling of personnel to manage the lighting or sound for live events. Design stage lighting for live events and operate computerized lighting control system. Collaborate as needed with performance arts faculty, staff, and student stage crews to design, hang, and/or focus lighting for events/productions or to aide contracted technical assistants. Prioritize and emphasize student-centered technical education and training.
  5. Collaborate as needed with performance arts faculty, staff, and student stage crews to design, balance, and/or coordinate sound needs for events/productions or to aid contracted technical assistants. Prioritize and emphasize student-centered technical education and training.
  6. Collaborate as needed with performance arts faculty, staff, and student stage crews to design and/or construct sets including the rigging of flies for events/productions and live events or to aid contracted technical assistants. Prioritize and emphasize student-centered technical education and training.
  7. Monitor custodial care of the performing arts centers and report any concerns to the Director of Operations.
  8. Work collaboratively with performance arts staff to coordinate productions, work with performers, and coordinate the set-up of all equipment required for all events at the performing arts centers as needed.  This would include the sound shell set-up and tear down.
  9. Ensure users follow the provisions of the Performing Arts Center Use Policy and Agreement
  10. Be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all theatrical equipment, and reporting maintenance needs of the theatre and surrounding performing arts center facilities or determine an independent contractor for repair as approved by administration.
  11. Perform regular maintenance on all lighting, sound and rigging equipment to ensure it is safe and in functional order
  12. Teach necessary staff and students including but not limited to lighting, sound, rigging, stage setup, set construction, and theatre safety. 
  13. Provide work experience opportunities and supervision in conjunction with theatre department for students and professional volunteers to learn technical production skills. In collaboration with theatre department faculty and staff, recruit, train, certify, manage and empower student stage crews.  Schedule student light, sound, and stage technicians as needed.
  14. Assist in the set up and preparation of the lobby of centers and/or collaborate with student and staff lighting and sound designers and technicians to assist in these areas when needed. 
  15. Will be present or be on call during all rehearsal and performance times, including for rentals, or will have a verified substitute available.
  16. Maintain inventory control of equipment and supplies that is easily accessible to performing arts faculty and staff. Make recommendations for annual operating budget for the PACs and fine arts rooms.
  17. Organize and maintain the areas related to the Performing Arts Centers including the costume room, green room, dressing rooms, backstage technical shop, control booths, and other areas as assigned.
  18. Coordinate with the theatre faculty and staff on material and set storage as well as with music departments’ faculty and staff on storage.
  19. Maintain effective working relationships with students, co-workers, administrators and school personnel, professional arts and/or representatives, and the general public. Interacts with community and district clients to provide services, satisfy customers, and resolve conflicts.
  20. Help to develop, establish, and proactively communicate written policies and operational procedures as needed.
  21. Prepare an annual end-of-the-year usage report for Administration and School Board.
  22. All duties may be in part with other performing arts faculty and staff.
  23. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and/or Experience:
 
Required: Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre technology, technical design, stage management, or comparable field or equivalent experience in Theatre Production and design including lighting, sound operation and equalizing, set design, and rigging.

Must be able to hear, see, speak, walk, stoop, bend and stand to carry out routine duties.  Must be able to lift or move up to 40 lbs. and occasionally over 40 lbs.  May also involve above-average levels of activity at times that can't always be anticipated.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors. Noise level could be over 85 decibels at times. The employee will work in close proximity to moving machinery / equipment, electrical hazards, and have exposure to heights.  The employee may occasionally work with hazardous fumes/odors and toxic chemicals. Must have the ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and possible holidays.  By District Board policy, the district facilities and grounds are to be drug, alcohol and tobacco free zones.
