Engine Simulation Intern

LiquidPiston is hiring interns! Get a step up in your career by gaining broad exposure to an intense program featuring the design, development, and testing of our novel rotary engines.

As an Engine Simulation Intern, you will work with Liquid Piston's engineering team in an R&D program aimed to bring a breakthrough rotary engine design to life.

Qualifications:

• Senior on track for BS, Master's, or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering
• Demonstrated interest in high-performance engines (professionally or not)
• Familiarity with SolidWorks
• Experience using GT Suite, GT Power, or other 1D engine simulation tool
• Mid to advanced level Matlab and/or Python programming
• Ability to work well in a small team environment, but also solve problems and learn independently
• Solid understanding of Mechanical Engineering basics, emphasis on Fluids and Thermodynamics

Typical work will include the following:

• Open and modify models in SolidWorks
• Perform 1D and 3D simulations using GT Suite, ANSYS, CONVERGE
• Communicate with Testing and Design teams
• View engine dynamometer tests
• Use and modify test data post-processing codes
• Document results through technical reports
• Participate in weekly meetings

Helpful Skills:

• Experience setting up and running Mechanical/Thermal FEA and CFD (flow, thermal) studies
• Experience working around a machine shop or with prototype parts, R&D programs
• Knowledge of modern optimization tools

Compensation:

• Approximately $2800-3500/mo depending on the year in school
