Location: Virtual (Zoom/Whatsapp) and/or public libraries/locations throughout DuPage County.
The Literacy DuPage office is located at 2100 Manchester Rd., Suite 904, Wheaton, IL 60187.
Job Description:
The Assessment Specialist will assess adult learners using TABE or BEST Plus 2.0 to identify learner levels and enter results in LACES database. The Assessment Specialist reports to the Literacy DuPage Program Manager. This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
This job requires daytime/evening hours Sunday – Saturday.
- Work hours are limited to up to 10 hours/week (including drive time to/from appts when needed) and are dependent on the number of adult learners that need to be assessed; Dec and March – June tend to be busier months.
- This position is a hybrid schedule. Hours can be performed at home / office / public location as needed.
This position is not expected to be an ‘on-call’ position. You should block time and communicate your ‘office hours’ on a shared google sheet.
1. Assist with Pre-Tests as needed
a. Share schedule availability on Google Sheet. Intake Specialists will schedule necessary tests.
b. Administer pre-test using BEST Plus 2.0 (Zoom or WhatsApp) or TABE (in-person).
c. Enter assessment results/comments in LACES database and save copies in office database.
2. Administer Post-Tests when notified by Program Manager
a. Contact tutor and schedule post-test assessment.
b. Review last assessment and goal form
c. Update test date in Google Sheet
d. Administer/Assess Learner using BEST Plus 2.0 (Zoom, WhatsApp, or in-person when needed) or TABE (in-person) and update goal form.
e. Discuss results with tutor/learner. Share results with Tutor Support Specialist if a change in level occurs so he/she can discuss possible curriculum changes.
f. Input post-test and status in LACES.
3. Perform other duties as assigned

- Bachelor’s degree
- BEST Plus 2.0 Training
- Must complete Literacy DuPage Tutor Training as well as professional development opportunities when assigned.
- Three years’ experience teaching in community-based program or community college with adult learners
- Experience with LACES or other database software
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Familiarity with literacy programs, testing, and specific needs of adult learner
- Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse populations

FLSA Status: Part-time, non-exempt. This is not a standard part-time job, the number of hours worked each week is dependent on how many adult learners we have in the program that need to be assessed; December and March – June tend to have higher volume.
Pay Rate:
Hourly rate will be paid at $24/hour. Mileage will be reimbursed at the current IRS rate. No additional benefits are provided.
