Primary Purpose:
The Child Nutrition Manager is responsible for the supervision of the child nutrition operation at an assigned campus. The manager will run the daily operation of the cafeteria in compliance with LEISD Child Nutrition Guidelines, USDA, TDA, local, state and federal regulations. The manager will be responsible for the supervision of a staff of employees and the implementation of the high standards of nutrition, food production, financial accountability, and customer service.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
· High School Diploma or GED
· Food Manager Certification preferred (certification must be obtained within 30 days)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
· Two years of experience in child nutrition operations preferred
· Strong organizational, communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
· Ability to organize, delegate, instruct, supervise, evaluate and coach personnel
· Ability to successfully interact with internal and external customers
· Self-starter, flexible, adapts to change, performs duties with minimal direct supervision
· Ability to interpret procedures and analyze data for effective decision making
· Proficient skills in the use of computers and office equipment
· Proficient skills in the use of kitchen equipment
· Ability to complete written forms/records and submit to appropriate department by the designated due date
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
· Manages assigned site operations (e.g. supervise personnel, monitor meal accounts and expenditures, follow menus, oversee cleaning procedures, etc.) for the purpose of providing efficient food services at the assigned site in compliance with established nutritional and health requirements.
· Monitors food service operations (e.g. kitchen equipment, trays, utensils, staff assignments, safety, sanitation, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a safe, clean and sanitary working environment in compliance with standard operating procedures and established nutritional and health standards.
· Maintains equipment, storage, food preparation and serving areas in a sanitary condition for the purpose of meeting and maintaining all TDA safety regulations and sanitation policy and procedures.
· Estimates food preparation amounts and adjusts planned menu items, if required, for the purpose of meeting projected meal requirements and minimizing waste of food items. Executes planned menus for the purpose of meeting students' mandated daily nutritional requirements.
· Oversees the preparation, cooking, and serving of food and beverage items for the purpose of meeting projected meal quantities and mandated nutritional and health standards and ensuring appealing presentation.
· Prepares food for flavor, appearance and temperature for the purpose of presenting items that will be accepted by students and/or staff according to guidelines.
· Inspects food and/or supply deliveries for the purpose of verifying quantity, quality and specifications of orders and/or complying with mandated health requirements. Inventories all food, condiments, and supplies at specified intervals for the purpose of ensuring availability of items required for meeting projected menu requirements.
· Participates in staff meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of gathering information required to perform job functions, such as updates required to be in compliance with all TDA and USDA policies and procedures.
· Performs functions of other nutritional services positions, as needed, for the purpose of ensuring adequate staff coverage within campus.
· Prepares a variety of documentation (e.g. meal production records, reconciliation reports, cash summary, timekeeping, HAACP, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
· Processes receipts for the purpose of completing and documenting transactions and/or preparing bank deposits. Reconciles transactions (e.g. meal counts, monies collected, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining account balances in compliance with established policies and procedures and makes daily bank deposits.
· Responds to day-to-day inquires of students, staff, to office, and the public for the purpose of providing information and/or direction regarding available food items and/or food service policies and practices. Escalates complaints and administrator requests to the Child Nutrition office.
· Schedules work hours and assignments for employees for the purpose of ensuring adequate coverage for daily operations.
· Follows the required meal pattern of meeting the mandated nutritional requirements and/or approved requests of students and school personnel.
· Stocks food, condiments, and supplies for the purpose of maintaining adequate quantities and security of items. Supervises food service workers and other personnel as assigned (e.g. trains, evaluates, etc.) for the purpose of maximizing the efficiency of the work force and meeting the daily shift requirements.
· Maintains a safe environment with open communication with all workers for the purpose of safety and respecting one another.
· Works cooperatively with campus principal to accommodate temporary schedule changes with administrative department approval.
· Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the department.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and fine motor skills. Must be able to see and read in English printed material with o r without vision aids. Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly. Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 70% walking, and 10% standing. Capable of lifting up to 30 pounds. Occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles; extreme cold and extreme heat.
