SUMMARY AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Under the direction of the Medical/Surgical Unit Manager and the Registered Nursing staff, the HUC/LNA assumes responsibility for a patient assignment and/or coordinating the non-clinical operations of the nursing department. This position collaborates with the RN staff to provide quality patient care, utilizes and acquires knowledge of current and best practices in patient care. This position will support the mission, vision, values and strategic initiatives of Littleton Regional Healthcare and demonstrates a commitment of quality service to patients, the public, coworkers and physicians.
Essential Functions:
- Employs written policies and procedures according to Littleton Regional Healthcare Nursing Division
- Provides support and functions as a resource to other HUC/LNAs
- Assists patients to rooms on admission and from rooms on discharge, accompanies to exit and assists patient safely to vehicle
- Transports patients as directed by a nurse, via stretcher, wheelchair or escorts if patient is ambulatory, interdepartmentally utilizing safety procedures and equipment
- Assists with ambulation of patients
- Communicates concerns regarding patient care issues and variances from expected outcomes to RN
- Reports abnormal changes in patient status to RN immediately
- Provides complete and accurate charting of care provided
- Cleans equipment according to procedures
- Performs delegated nursing orders and treatments within 30 minutes of ordered time
- Performs general clerical duties including: distribution of correspondence, copying, typing, communication, chart retrieval and other non-clinical functions as assigned within the scope of practice
- Provides telephone coverage for the nursing unit. Acts as a resource support person for all customers, both external and internal
- Transcribes orders according to LRH policy. Enters clinical information into the computer system
- Keeps nursing station orderly with adequate supply of paper, forms and other clerical items
- Assists in arranging follow up tests or appointments for patients as directed
- Maintains department census and statistics as well as nursing assignments
- Assists in the transfer of patients, calling transport services as directed and by ensuring that transport paperwork is in order
- Participates in orientation of new personnel
- Participates in in-house education programs
- Participates in and promotes environmental safety maintains bedside area, patient rooms in a manner that is orderly and functional
- Promotes patient safety
- Performs independently and functions in a professional manner
- Supports and contributes to the mission and vision of Littleton Regional Healthcare with a continuous focus on excellence in customer service and patient care delivery
- Establishes and maintains a professional relationship with patients, visitors, staff, physicians and the community
- Assures confidentiality of patient information at all times
- Assesses personal learning and professional growth needs and seeks educational opportunities to meet those needs
- Performs other duties as needed within the scope of practice in support of departmental and institutional needs and requirements
- Adheres to hospital, department and compliance policies, procedures, regulations and laws
- Promotes positive staff team building and customer service by displaying tact, patience, courtesy and respect when interacting with patients, visitors and staff
- Able to respond appropriately to: Code Blue, Code Red, Code Amber and Code White by utilizing the phone and pager system

QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience/Specialized Skills:
- BLS certification
- MOAB certification within 6 months of hire
Required Education/Course(s)/Training:
- Currently licensed as a Licensed Nursing Assistant in the State of New Hampshire
- 1 year of LNA experience preferred, not required

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Frequent multi-tasking and prioritization of multiple patient needs is ongoing. Exposed to all patient elements; including exposure to human waste, blood and bodily fluid as well as hazardous substances is unavoidable.
