The HUC/LNA displays sensitivity and empathy to the needs of patients, visitors and other members of the staff. The HUC/LNA prioritizes independent functions and utilizes resources to maximize efficiency.
Summary of Major Function
Under direction of the Clinical Director and the RN staff, the HUC/LNA assumes responsibility for a patient assignment and or coordinating the non-clinical operations of the nursing department. This position collaborates with RN staff to provide quality patient care. Utilizes and acquires knowledge of current and best practices in patient care. This position will support the mission, vision, values and strategic initiatives of Littleton Regional Hospital and must demonstrate a commitment to quality service to patients, physicians, the public and coworkers.
PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND WORK ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Employs written policies and procedures according to the Littleton Regional Hospital Nursing Department
- Provides support and functions as a resource for other HUC/LNAs
- Participates in orientation of new personnel
- Recognizes educational needs and facilitates professional growth
- Participates in in-house educational programs
- Maintains BCLS certification
- Attends at least one safety program each year
- Participates in and promotes environmental safety
- Promotes patient safety
- Performs independently and functions in a professional manner
- Participates in evaluation of annual performance appraisal of self with Nurse Manager in a timely manner
- Maintains bedside area, patient rooms in a manner that is orderly and functional
- Assists patients to rooms on admission and from rooms on discharge and accompanies to exit; assist patient safely to vehicle
- Transports patients as directed by a nurse, via stretcher, wheelchair or escorts if patient is ambulatory, interdepartmentally utilizing safety procedures and equipment
- Assists with ambulation of patients
- Communicates concerns regarding patient care issued and variances from expected job performance to RN
- Reports abnormal changes in patient status to Registered Nurse immediately
- Documents according to the Littleton Regional Hospital Nursing Department Policy
- Cleans equipment according to procedures
- Performs delegated nursing orders and treatments within a half hour of ordered time
- Performs general clerical duties including distribution of correspondence, copying, typing, communication and other non-clinical functions as assigned within the scope of practice
- Assists the nursing department with copying, phone calls, chart retrieval and other duties as assigned
- Maintains patient charts and enters charges according to established policy
- Provides telephone coverage for the nursing unit. Acts as a resource support person for all customers, both internal and external
- Under supervision of the RNs on duty, enters orders into the computer
- Transcribes orders according to LRH policy. Enters clinical information into the computer system
- Participates in the continuous Quality Improvement of the unit and the Nursing Department
- Keeps the nursing station orderly with adequate supply of paper, forms and other clerical items
- Appropriate and timely discharge of the patient from the computer system and breaks down the medical record according to hospital policy
- Assists patients and families with phone calls as needed
- Assists in the transfer of patients, calling transport services as directed and by ensuring that transportation paperwork is in order
- Assists in arranging follow up tests or appointments for patients as directed
- Maintains department census and statistics as well as nursing assignments
- Promotes positive staff team building and customer service by displaying tact, patience, courtesy and respect when interacting with patients, visitors and staff
- Able to respond appropriately to: Code Blue, Code Red, Code Amber, Code White by utilizing the phone and pager system according to hospital policy
Unit Leadership
- Provides support and functions as a resource for all other HUC/LNAs

Minimum Requirements
Must be currently licensed as a Licensed Nursing Assistant in New Hampshire. Minimum of one year of practice as an LNA is preferred. BCLS required.
