Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Medical Records Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining accurate patient records, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, and supporting healthcare providers with timely access to medical information. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to confidentiality and patient care.
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Maintain, organize, and update electronic and paper medical records in compliance with HIPAA and healthcare regulations.
- Ensure accurate and timely data entry of patient health information into the EMR system.
- Retrieve and process requests for medical records from patients, healthcare providers, and authorized entities.
- Work closely with providers and staff to ensure proper documentation and recordkeeping.
- Safeguard patient confidentiality and ensure all medical records are stored securely.
- Assist in audits and quality assurance checks to verify the completeness and accuracy of medical records.
- Process release of information requests according to clinic policies and regulations.
- Respond to inquiries regarding medical records while maintaining professionalism and discretion.
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s Degree preferred.
Prior Experience:
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in medical records management.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and medical recordkeeping standards.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and EMR systems.
Skills:
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish preferred.
- Strong computer skills, including experience with EMR software.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
