We are currently seeking to fill the Medical Records and Authorization Specialist position.
- Position to be performed in the Fresno Headquarters.
- Compensation $21-$25 / hr (negotiable, based on experience, etc.).
- Knowledge of medical terminology, HIPAA regulations, and insurance authorization processes.
- At least 1-2 years of experience in authorizations, medical records, health information, or a similar administrative role, preferably in a hospice or healthcare setting.
About the Position The Medical Records and Authorization Specialist is responsible for the accurate organization and safeguarding of patient medical records. This role ensures that all necessary authorizations for hospice services are obtained and that the documentation complies with regulations, standards, and policies.
Key Responsibilities :
Medical Records :
Maintain accurate, organized, and up-to-date medical records for hospice patients.
Ensure all required documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with legal and regulatory requirements.
Review patient charts for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with company policies and regulations.
Prepare, organize, and file medical records in both physical and electronic formats.
Assist in the retrieval of patient medical records for audits, reporting, and care coordination.
Authorization and Compliance :
Obtain necessary pre-certifications, authorizations, and insurance approvals for hospice care services.
Ensure timely submission of authorization requests to insurance providers, healthcare organizations, and regulatory bodies.
Communicate with insurance companies to verify eligibility, benefits, and coverage for hospice services.
Monitor and track the status of authorization requests and ensure that all required documents are submitted promptly.
Ensure that all authorization processes comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including HIPAA.
Coordination and Communication :
Collaborate with healthcare providers, case managers, and insurance companies to gather necessary information for medical records and authorizations.
Provide support to the clinical and administrative teams by facilitating smooth communication between parties involved in patient care and services.
Notify appropriate staff and patients of authorization approvals or denials and assist in next steps as needed.
Patient and Family Support :
Assist families in understanding the authorization process and provide guidance regarding insurance coverage for hospice services.
Educate patients and families on the necessary documentation and procedures for hospice care.
Quality Assurance :
Participate in audits and reviews to ensure accuracy and compliance of medical records and authorization processes.
Identify areas for improvement in documentation and authorization procedures to streamline workflows and ensure high standards of patient care.
Confidentiality and Security :
Ensure the privacy and confidentiality of patient records in compliance with HIPAA and other privacy laws.
Protect sensitive patient data, ensuring that records are accessible only to authorized personnel.
Qualifications : Education :
High school diploma or equivalent (Required).
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Health Information, Medical Office Administration, or a related field (Preferred).
Skills :
Proficient in using Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems and healthcare software.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to handle confidential information with integrity.
Problem-solving and analytical skills.
