What are the responsibilities and job description for the Deputy Director of Emergency Management Services (Livingston County Residents Only) position at Livingston County?
The incumbent will assist with the administration of the County fire training and mutual aid programs under the general direction of the Emergency Management Services Director. This administrative position assists with the planning of County programs of fire training and mutual aid to cope with fires and other public emergencies requiring the services of firefighters and other emergency personnel. Supervision may be exercised over subordinate and volunteer personnel. Work is performed in the office and in the field. A Deputy Emergency Management Services Director does related work as directed.

An individual who receives a provisional appointment must take the examination for the position title on the next occasion it is offered. In order to be eligible for a permanent appointment to the position, the provisional appointee must pass the exam and be ranked 1, 2, 3, or be tied in score with the individual ranked number 3 of those who are willing to accept appointment to the position. It should be understood that even if the provisional appointee is eligible for appointment, the employer may choose another candidate to fill the position on a permanent basis. Questions regarding provisional appointments should be directed to the Livingston County Human Resources Department.
- Assists in updating the various disaster and response plans;
- Schedules and carries out drills and exercises to test the various disaster and response plans;
- Assists with the analysis of needs and recommends procurement of facilities, equipment and services required for emergency service and/or County fire programs;
- Assists with the planning for response to disasters by insuring that resources are made available, personnel are recruited and trained, and various forms of equipment are coordinated to respond and recover from disasters;
- Coordinates and participates in fire inspection of schools;
- Assists with preparation of periodic reports on various aspects of emergency management activities;
- As directed, assesses disaster damages, compiles disaster survey reports and oversees the process of applying for relief dollars;
- As directed, represents the County to explain the functions and responsibilities of Emergency Management and Fire Service;
- Acts for the Emergency Management Services Director in his/her absence; and
- Performs other related duties as directed.

- Appointee must maintain active Interior Firefighter status throughout employment.
- Appropriate licensure must be maintained throughout employment.
- A driving record evidencing safe and responsible vehicle operation is required.
- Must authorize and execute any necessary releases to enable the appointing authority to verify licensure and driving history involving violations and/or crimes.
