Job Summary
Under the general direction of the center's Site Supervisor. Assist with the academic instruction of preschool students at the Child Development Center.
Job Description / Essential Elements :
Qualifications :
1. High School diploma.
2. Minimum of 6 Early Childhood Education (ECE) Units.
3. Pass District Proficiency Test.
4. Knowledge of basic concepts of child growth and developmental.
5. Able to read, write, and speak English and preferably another designated language fluently.
6. Able to demonstrate an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude toward young children.
7. Able to utilize a variety of learning activity procedures.
8. Able to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with children, parents, community members, and all levels of school personnel.
9. Complete and pass a district-approved weight endurance physical.
10. Able to lift and transport 5 to 20 pounds routinely and up to 50 pounds on occasion.
Responsibilities :
- Assists instructional personnel with the presentation of learning materials and in follow-up activities.
- Assists preschool-age children in safe learning and recreational experiences.
- Uses positive reinforcement strategies and other techniques to assist students in the development of appropriate behavior and an appreciation of human diversity.
- Prepares and assists in the set up and preparation of learning activities for the use with individual or small groups of students.
- Helps supervise during field trips, meals, and playground activities.
- If bilingual, communicates with students in English and a designated second language to facilitate instruction; provides translation, orally and written, for limited or non-English speaking parents and school staff.
- May maintain a variety of records and files, including confidential student records and information.
- May assist students with dressing, toileting, feeding and grooming.
- Uses good judgment regarding appropriate action to assist injured or physically ill students.
- Performs other duties as assigned to maintain the effective operation of the Child Development Educational Program.
