Summary
Director of aquatics performs safety and recreational work supervising and scheduling swim staff as well as enforcing regulations at the pool and beach front. In addition, this individual will be required to provide swim instruction to camp groups of differing swim abilities as well as provide or delegate, to a qualified lifeguard, private swim lessons, as requested.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties and responsibilities are not all inclusive. Other duties may be assigned.
· Schedules and appropriately staff lifeguards at pool and waterfront.
· Ensures staff adherence to operating policies and procedures.
· Observes and patrols pool and beach and enforces safety regulations.
· Assists swimmers from water when in danger.
· Performs resuscitation and first aid, when appropriate.
· Maintains the cleanliness of the facility.
· Performs minor maintenance work on pool equipment.
· Assists with testing, recording and adjusting chemical levels.
· Schedules and provides swim lesson upon request.
· Advise and communicate with swim team coach, as necessary.
· Assist swim team coach with swim meets/practices.
· Attends training as required for continued education and meetings as required by DOH and ARC.
· Provides quality member service by responding to member issues and concerns in a timely manner. Reviews circumstances and takes appropriate action. Reports member issues and concerns to General Manager.
· Effectively responds to emergency situations.
· Assists with keeping accurate daily records of aquatic facility usage, rules violations, accidents, and chemical levels.
· Assists with special events.
· May work a varying schedule and/or shift.
Qualifications and Requirements
· Knowledge of the policies, procedures and goals of the DOH and ARC.
· Knowledge of the principles and practices of pool and beach water safety.
· Knowledge of principles and practices of effective member relations.
· Knowledge of aquatics facilities and equipment used in aquatics programs.
· Skill in performing life-saving and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) activities.
· Skill in routine repair and maintenance of aquatics equipment.
· Skill in maintaining a variety of records related to aquatics program operations.
· Skill in accurately testing chemical levels of pools and adding or adjusting chemicals to maintain proper chemical balance.
· Ability to effectively lead and encourage employees.
· Ability to react quickly and accurately in emergency situations.
· Ability to make sound judgments.
· Ability to organize and assist with special events.
· Ability to promote and provide quality member service.
· Ability to listen well and communicate effectively orally and in writing with various audiences.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff members and guests.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
· Two years’ experience in a lifeguard related position.
· Experience teaching swim lessons and running group swim sessions in a camp or similar group setting.
· Experience managing/scheduling lifeguards preferable.
LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATION:
· American Red CPR-Professional Rescuer
· American Red Cross Lifeguard Training
· AED
· Water Safety Instructor
· Pool and waterfront certified – level IIb
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
· Minimum 2 years
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, swim, rescue, bend, kneel, stoop, squat, twist, push, pull, jump, climb, reach, talk, hear, and see. The employee is also required to frequently perform light to heavy lifting, up to 50 lbs.

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
