JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, develops and implements optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods to achieve optimum line balance and throughput. Ensures manufacturing processes are in accordance with Ergonomic practices, meets product specifications and achieves quality standards. Recommend and implement improvements to production equipment, methods, and controls.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Design processes and select tooling and equipment which meet requirements for process capability, production capacity, cost effectiveness and maintainability. Specify and implement any associated work holding fixtures, mistake-proofing provisions and material handling systems as required.
• Provide ongoing technical support to continuously improve process performance while reducing manufacturing costs. Streamline and simplify existing processes, work methods, material delivery and sequencing systems to eliminate non-value added (NVAA) activity. Analyze manufacturing operations develop/design workflows and production processes to reduce inefficiency and ensure that final products meet the established quality standards.
• Develops and maintains process documentation including PFCs, Work Instructions and PFMEAs.
• Evaluate employees’ tasks and responsibilities, identifying procedures or tools to maximize productivity.
• Prepare material and equipment lists, purchase orders, cost analyses, and estimated production costs.
• Assists in the designs and/or procurement tools, machinery, and equipment for the manufacturing methods.
• Design the layout of facilities and determining personnel requirements.
• Training staff in new processes and providing instructions and manuals.
• Evaluates and resolves problems with production processes and/or production equipment.
• Conferring with management, engineering, production and quality staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, product design, and other considerations to ensure operator’s safety, efficient production methods and quality results.
• Displays a positive attitude towards safety, works safely and follows all the Company's safety policies and procedures.
• Reports all unsafe and unhealthy conditions or acts to management immediately.
• Reports injuries, accidents, illnesses, near misses and property damage immediately to your supervisor.
• Complying with all Health, Safety and Environmental standards in accordance with company policies, the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Michigan Occupational Health & Safety Act.
• Displays a positive attitude towards safety, works safely and follows all the Company's safety policies and procedures.
• Complying with all Health, Safety and Environmental standards in accordance with company policies, the Occupational Health & Safety Act. and the Michigan Occupational Health & Safety Act.
• Ensures all employees and visitors have a safe environment in that safety and housekeeping standards are maintained; and all hazards, unsafe actions, or unsafe conditions have been identified, corrected, and/or eliminated.
• Responds to and investigates all reports of injuries, accidents, illnesses, near misses and property damage immediately.
• Takes an active part in the division’s safety program by performing regular workplace inspections, effectively investigates accidents/incidents promptly, and assists in meeting or exceeding the division’s safety goals.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of five (5) years of engineering experience in an automotive manufacturing environment.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
• Working knowledge of kaizen and/or lean manufacturing techniques.
• Superior verbal, written, and presentation skills required.
• The ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to management, employees, corporate personnel, suppliers, and the customer is essential.
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Documentation and organization skills.
• Must be proficient with computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database, and presentation software.
• Possess analytical ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Provide leadership; develop professional attitudes and lead by example.
• Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to establish good working relationships with employees, co-workers, management, and customers,
• Proficient with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Work performed in an office and manufacturing plant environments. Normal mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amounts of work at a computer. Frequently exposed to varying temperatures within plant depending upon external weather conditions. Frequently walks, stands, grips/grasps, bends/stops, crouches; and lifts and carries up to thirty (30) lbs within the manufacturing plant environment.
