This is a long-term substitute position and is available until the end of the 2024-2025 school year and pays $120.00 per day. The Locke Middle School is seeking a long-term substitute teacher for 6th-grade special education in the inclusion setting. The candidate must possess a strong content knowledge of ELA and mathematics, as well as an understanding of how to implement individual education plans in the regular education setting. We are seeking collaborative, caring individuals with a passion for teaching students with specific individual learning needs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: This position is accountable for planning and providing appropriate learning experiences for preschool students with & without disabilities in the integrated preschool setting. The teacher is responsible for creating a learning environment that provides specialized instruction for preschool students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment as well as providing a preschool experience that is aligned with DESE standards for all preschoolers. The teacher is responsible for ensuring that students with an IEP receive services following federal and state laws and regulations. JOB DUTIES: 1. Follow Federal and state regulations and district procedures for special education and the Americans with Disabilities Act, meet timelines, and ensure a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). 2. Provide direct and indirect instructional support to students in order for the students to make meaningful progress based on their unique circumstances. 3. Develop lesson plans aligned with DESE standards that are accessible to all students. 4. Employ specialized instructional methodologies and techniques to support access to curriculum and documented progress. 5. Prepare and adapt lessons to meet the needs of all students. 6. Modify content, methodologies, and performance expectations as required for a student with disabilities to access the curriculum and the school environment. 7. Conduct educational assessments and write evaluation reports that meet the Federal and state requirements. 8. Participate in the team process and eligibility determinations for special education. 9. Schedule and chair annual review meetings. 10. Write Individualized Education Programs (IEP) and implement services outlined in the IEP. 11. Write measurable goals with objectives/benchmarks that are measurable and keep data to support achievement towards meeting the goals and objectives/benchmarks. 12. Determine the need for extended school year services through ongoing data collection that measures regression/recoupment following breaks in service during the school year. 13. Write progress reports commensurate with the general education report card schedule. 14. Collaborate with team members, general education teachers, and related service providers regarding the delivery of services and IEP development. 15. Communicate with parents/guardians to discuss student progress. 16. Supervise and direct paraprofessionals 17. Supervises students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation and self-care including toileting. 18. Performs other responsibilities as deemed appropriate and assigned by a supervisor and/or designee. Preferred candidate should be licensed as a Special Education teacher with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
