Description:• The Communications Technical Assistant will report to the Senior Vice President (SVP) of Communications and perform the following duties:
• Assist the Communications SVP with managing contractors and preparing Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and general staff notifications.
• Provide counsel to SVP and senior communications leaders and corporate staff in the and implementation of enterprise-wide communications initiatives.
• Assist and advise the Communications SVP on Communications function management, human resources and other duties as assigned
• Coordinate the preparation of presentations, speeches, talking points, reports, correspondence and other communications for the SVP.
• Coordinate and participate in Communications leadership team meetings, including weekly tag ups and monthly meetings
• Participate in meetings with the SVP and Communications Leadership Team, share ideas, track action items, establish deadlines for follow up and ensure closure.
• Compile the weekly situation report to the Corporation's senior leaders.
• Establish a rhythm and an integrated communications plan for the SVP’s employee, industry and media engagements.
• Stay attuned to communications trends and tools in the industry and competitor actions and provide ideas and recommendations to the Communications Leadership Team on a quarterly basis.
• Supervision and management of a small team of support personnel.
• Other duties as assigned.
This level 6 position is a 24-36 month assignment at corporate headquarters in Bethesda, and is designed to accelerate the professional of high-potential employees with at least seven years of professional experience through:
• Daily interaction with the senior vice president, communications, and members of the communications leadership team.
• High-level exposure to communications, business and program issues spanning the entire corporation.
• Participation in communications planning and related initiatives led by the SVP.
• Regular interaction with senior leaders, including members of the corporate executive staff, as well as business area and operating company leadership.
• Daily interaction with the corporate communications staff and communicators from other business areas and operating companies.
• Responsibility for special assignments as assigned by the SVP.
• Management of the business rhythm for a senior corporate executive.
Upon completion of the assignment, the individual should be prepared for placement in a follow-on position that will provide an opportunity to employ the skills and experiences gained in the assignment.
Basic Qualifications:
Candidates for the assignment must:
• Have a bachelor’s degree in related discipline
• Have at least 8-15 years of professional experience and significant communications experience
• Experience working in a complex and matrixed organization
Desired Skills:
• Demonstrate behavior consistent with Full Spectrum Leadership imperatives.
• Have exhibited strong leadership skills or potential in prior work assignments.
• International or Capitol Hill Experience preferred
• Strong organizational skills
• Master’s degree in Communications, Business Administration or other relevant discipline.
