THIS POSITION IS AN IN-HOUSE ONLY JOB POSTING. YOU MUST CURRENTLY BE EMPLOYED BY THE CITY OF LOGAN TO APPLY FOR THIS POSITION.
Under general supervision, oversees and participates in the work of a crew involved in the collection, reduction, diversion, and disposal of solid waste materials, and the operation and maintenance of vehicles and equipment ibn the Landfill division of the Environmental Department.
Qualifications :
Must be a high school graduate or equivalent AND have experience equivalent to two (2) years full-time work performing duties requiring the operation of equipment. Must possess a valid Utah Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at a level appropriate to the equipment operated. Have good computer skills, mechanical skills, strong customer service experience. Supervisory experience is also preferred. Must possess or be able to obtain a Manager of Landfill Operations (MOLO) from the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA).
Responsibilities :
Supervises people involved in solid waste management activities including : assignments, operation and maintenance of refuse placement and transportation trucks, heavy equipment, waste reduction and recycling, hazardous materials, and computerized scale & data collection; insures compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations, laws, and guidelines.
Supervises a crew involved in the operation of a variety of equipment and machinery at the landfill; performs minor repairs on trucks and equipment such as changing tires, and lubricating and washing trucks and equipment; responsible for performing routine safety, preventive maintenance, and operational checks on equipment prior to operation.
Responsible for leadership, safety, productivity, morale, discipline, and recognition of crew members; directly involved in goal setting and performance evaluation of assigned crew; coordinates equipment needs, work schedules, and general time keeping; answers customer questions and responds to requests for information.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Knowledge of equipment, tools, and materials used in the collection, diversion, and / or management of refuse and solid waste.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work assigned.
Knowledge of the procedures for completing daily report forms, records of customer contact; payroll time sheets, and equipment maintenance forms.
Knowledge of the principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation.
Skill in the safe and efficient operation of assigned equipment.
Skill in supervising, training and evaluating assigned staff.
Skill in creating a working climate that inspires trust, teamwork, quality, and pride.
Skill in communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of business.
