Job Description
- The Guidance Counselor serves as the school counselor for students and provides a comprehensive competency based counseling program focused on the learning, personal/social and career/vocational needs of the students.
- The Guidance Counselor will also provide building coordination and support for all guidance and counseling functions for all grade levels.
Job Requirements
- Counsel students about their interests, aptitudes, abilities, and personality characteristics, as well as vocational/educational planning.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with college and vocational schools.
- Counsel students with discipline problems.
- Assist students in understanding and overcoming social and emotional problems through individual and group counseling.
- Collaborate with teachers to present proactive, prevention-based classroom guidance activities.
- Prepare and review student transcripts; schedule students after evaluating transcript.
- Work cooperatively with other personnel to improve instructional programs and the overall operation of the school.
- Attend and participate in required in-service activities and assist in planning and conducting such activities.
- Communicate with stakeholders on student academic progress, attendance, and behavior.
Job Qualifications
- Educational Requirements: Master's degree in guidance and/or School Counseling or related area required
- Licensure/Certifications: Indiana State Teacher's Guidance Counselor or related area License required
- Experience: Three (3) years' experience working as a licensed teacher, counselor, social worker, or other qualified experience
- Upon offer, applicant must complete and clear an Indiana background check required for all school personnel
- Upon offer, applicant must complete and clear a drug screen
