What are the responsibilities and job description for the 2025-2026 OHHS Guidance Counselor position at Oak Hill High School?
Reports To: High School Principal
Length of Contract: 203 Days - approximately 10 days before school starts and 10 days after school ends
Position Requirements:
- Demonstrate a genuine concern for the social, emotional, and physical well-being of children
- Master Degree in School Counseling
- Valid Indiana School Counseling License
- Experience and Knowledge in Best Practices for School Counseling
- Excellent Communication and Team Skills
- Strong Organizational Skills
Performance Responsibilities:
- Assists the administration in developing the class schedule and assigning students to classes.
- Assists in enrolling students into the student data system and assigning a schedule of classes.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive school counseling program around developing knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary for children to become healthy, competent, and confident learners.
- Assists in developing student behavior management plans and programs for the purpose of resolving social, emotional, and educational challenges and concerns.
- Provide education, prevention, early identification and intervention, to assist students in achieving academic success, developing an understanding of career opportunities and developing social/emotional skills in response to issues they face.
- Provide direct services (school counseling core curriculum, individual student planning, responsive services), and indirect student services (consultation, collaboration, and referrals).
- Collects, organizes and analyzes student information (e.g. historical educational data, test results) for the purpose of tracking student progress and promoting academic success.
- Collaborate with the elementary and middle school counselors in order to provide a comprehensive K-12 counseling program experience for students.
- Collaborate with outside agencies to provide services to students.
- Assist with requirements for federal, state, and local testing of students. It is preferred that candidates have experience/knowlege of administering standardized testing programs like PSAT, ASVAB, ILEARN, SAT, AP.
- Collaborate with institutes of higher education to provide guidance to students that would like to attend post secondary institutions and knowledge of dual credit opportunities available for high schools through these institutions.
