Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to join our Finance team in this NPO. This role will be instrumental in managing the organization’s accounting functions, with a special emphasis on investment accounting and reporting. The ideal candidate has a solid background in nonprofit accounting and is comfortable working with complex investment portfolios.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate and timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
- Reconcile and analyze investment accounts, including alternative investments, pooled funds, and endowments
- Prepare financial statements in accordance with GAAP and FASB standards applicable to nonprofit organizations
- Collaborate with the Director of Finance to monitor and report on investment performance and alignment with policy guidelines
- Coordinate with external investment managers, custodians, and auditors for regular reporting and audits
- Assist with budget preparation, financial forecasting, and internal reporting for various departments and grants
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations, including IRS 990 and UBIT considerations
- Maintain internal controls and improve financial policies and procedures
- Support the development and implementation of financial strategies aligned with the organization’s mission and goals
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a nonprofit environment
- Demonstrated experience in investment accounting and understanding of various investment vehicles
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, including nonprofit-specific accounting standards
